I met a guy today who was a cook in our galley. I spoke with him a found out he didn't know what boudin was... WTF? are shreveport people from louisiana or what? (he was born and raised there, and never even heard of it)
I have a friend that lives and Shreveport and they seem to lean more towards everything Texas because of their extreme northwest location. Most everyone living in shreveport pull for the Dallas Cowboys and don't really exude the same type of culture we do down here. Afterall, Shreveport is practically in Texas.
Historically speaking, north louisiana is extremely different from south louisiana. The northern part of the state was settled by the same people who settle (the non-gulf coast part of) mississippi and alabama. The soil in the carolinas had begun to wear out (they hadnt figured out crop rotation yet i guess) so the carolinians began to move almost directly west, settling in alabama, mississippi, and louisiana. So north louisiana folks share more of the redneck heritage that is common in texas.
