Rebs' sophomore running back suspendedOrgeron will examine Abrams's status Monday By Marlon Morgan Contact August 27, 2005 Ole Miss notebook OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels are without yet another player after coach Ed Orgeron announced following Friday's walk-through that sophomore running back Alan Abrams has been suspended from the team for disciplinary reasons. Advertisement ''I will review his case on Monday,'' Orgeron said. Abrams, from Orlando, was not at practice Friday. He was spotted at practice Thursday wearing a scout team jersey. Soon after practice began, Abrams walked off the field, got dressed and left the Indoor Practice Facility. At the time, Orgeron said he didn't know why Abrams left practice. Abrams had appeared to fall behind Jamal Pittman and Brandon Jacobs on the depth chart. During practice this week, the Rebels also began getting more reps for redshirt freshman Mico McSwain, who was switched from defensive back to tailback a couple of weeks ago. Abrams appeared in 10 games for Ole Miss last season, making two starts. He ran the ball 56 times for 275 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Already this preseason, the Rebels have had freshman Jada Brown quit, ask to rejoin the team, then be dismissed. Freshman defensive back Dustin Forston and offensive lineman Lance Lee, and junior kicker Hunter Bray also quit the team. Freshmen Wallace Bates and Jabarre Mitchell were dismissed. Mock game today The Rebels will participate in a mock game at 3:30 p.m. today at Vaught Hemingway Stadium. Although they will not actually scrimmage, Orgeron said the players will go through entire game situations with the first and second teams going against the scout team. Offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, receivers coach Matt Lubick and graduate assistant Grant Heard will be up in the coaches box for the offense, while defensive backs coach Tony Hughes and grad assistant David Corrao will represent the defense upstairs. ''Everybody's going to practice just like we were in a game,'' Orgeron said. ''We're going to make our calls. The service team is going to be on one side and we're going to be on the other. It'll be a scripted practice. Everything is going to be situational.'' Focusing on the Tigers After a physical and demanding preseason, the Rebels have reached the point where they are looking forward to their Sept. 5 season-opener at the University of Memphis. ''We were talking out here today, we're getting tired of looking at each other,'' quarterback Micheal Spurlock said. ''We want to see some new faces and be able to celebrate on other people, rather than each other. After a while, it gets old. You just have to fight through it and get ready for your first opponent.''
Wow, too bad. I had high hopes for Abrams. Saw him play once in Apopka and the kid is a sho'nuff stud and it's just a pleasure to watch him tote the rock. His running style reminded me very much of Brent Fullwood. Mister Ed is losing alot of players down in the Grove .....

At first, I thought that was a typo. I looked it up and they do indeed open the season on a Monday.. at 3:30 in the afternoon! What the heck, desperate to get on tv or something? Only at Ole Piss!
