I don’t have any inside knowledge as to why Dorsey decided to come back, so the only thing I can really go on is what he said in an interview with WBRZ.

I’m not a fan of Blogs. The sensationalist crap that most of them seem to spew out usually rubs me the wrong way. I guess the temptation to post opinion as fact is higher in a blog than in a newspaper.

The author is of course entitled to his opinion. But it gets to me when he accuses our coaching staff of being selfish with one of our player’s best interests, and also he doesn’t give Dorsey any credit for thinking for himself or following his heart. Why is it so hard to believe that Dorsey knows he is a kid, is having the time of his life and wants to continue it for another year, and / or wants to get his college degree for a number of reasons? I don’t know for sure one way or the other, but I’m not trying to pass off my opinion as fact. I just don’t believe that our coaches intentionally misled Dorsey or that Dorsey isn’t capable of seeing the big picture for himself.

I guess it’s silly to even post an entry from a blog, but it is the silly season now anyway…

I've never heard anyone say our Coach was anything less than about the kids...in fact he received a lot of criticism in the beginning from many who felt he was too much of a "Players' coach". Time has shown his style to be very effective- not only reports from players, parents, but also the "W's".

I'd agree with your last statement. :thumb:

i guess this idiot didnt hear about dorseys cracked shin? same reason Laron returned. not to don the purple and gold but to increase his draft stock. same thing here. he had to return or risk falling out the first round because he couldnt perform at 100% during the combine.

You're probably correct and it's like Mike said about "Sensationalism"....these jerks don't much care about facts, they leave the sorting out to the public.

Even if the coaches at LSU tried to convince him to stay for the betterment of the team big friggin' deal. That's their right and they're not getting paid to talk players into leaving so it will get them and their family set for life.

If CLM encourages a player to go early and puts the player's interest ahead of the team's then that's just lagniappe. It's not required and shouldn't be expected.

Hell, how could he hurt his stock?? GD may probably go as a top 5 pick next year.
A beast that was a sure top ten pick as a junior. Now consider the same guy with one more year of experience...he'll be the first DT taken in the draft!!!
GEAUX Glenn!!! I hope he has a fine final season at LSU, stays out of injury, and goes as a top pick next year:thumb:
One more thing, a DT cant hurt his stock like a QB or a RB. So the chances of him dropping are very low, unlike JaMarcus, if he stayed and didnt have an IMPRESSIVE season, he wont be going as the first pick..

Your post raises a good question. I've always felt more like the coach should show them (To the best of their knowledge) their options and be completely "On the table"; however, I've always preached, "Finish what you start" and they are a part of a team, but if they "Start" with intentions of being drafted into the NFL, where's the "Finish line" established. Until that day comes or until their 4 years are exhausted. As a coach, that has to be hard to do.

I'd love to hear how others feel about that. Should a coach try to convince a player to stay?

Thanks for an objective post! With events of late, there have not been many on either side of the Bama - LSU divide, and I include myself in the emotional crowd. Your post is a step in the right direction.

no, the general rule of thumb by most coaches, even $$$ is if they are projected first round you advise them to go. if not, you return. if injured, you cant risk it and come back.
