I posted this earlier, but I figured I'd start a thread: How come every conference can come up with a way to decide who wins the conference, but they can't just make a tie breaker rule to play in a national champ game: First zero loss teams get in. If there are more than 2 then whoever has the best SOS gets in (would get rid of weak conf champs) Then if teams have 1 loss gets in, if there is a one-loss team tie, then head to head would be the first tie-breaker; the second tie-breaker would be SOS(would get rid of more weak conf 1 loss teams) The prohibitor would be you must win your conference to get into the champ game. That's the easiest way to figure out the national champions. It should matter if teams you play lose all year long, that means they really weren't that damn great anyway. If you have a playoff, you destroy the bowls and end tradition. You still have the problem about who is 8th and who is ninth. You still have to consider a hot 3-4 loss team getting into the playoff like west virginia or Kstate and running the table, then how stupid does the playoff look??? That's why the NFL sux. Who cares who wins the first six games? I'd never consider a 4 loss team national champs. And I'd probably quit watching when it happens(well every thing but LSU, of course). This would eliminate human intervention and an provide an solid method that everyone can buy off on. All this considered OU is a much better team than USC anyway, but I wouldn't care who we played, Saban and co. took care of business.
I really do not think the BCS is that far away from being damn near percect, and I am not saying that b/c LSU is in the Sugar Bowl. For the first time in my life, I gave a shit about Boise State, Hawaii and Syracuse. I even cared about Bowling Green for pete's sake(not pete carrol). This makes every game played matter, something that is really special. So how is it so close and yet so far away? This is an absolute ridiculous situation, but the solution is so simple. The top 4 teams get into the two best bowls, for example this year the Sugar and Rose. Wow - we have that right now. Now simply take the winners and play ONE more game. This one for all the marbles. All the pundits cannot say this makes any game irrelevant or they would be lying. It is still damn hard to be a top 4 team. The pundits cannot say it takes away from school. It is only one extra game. And finally we wont have to hear bitching about the human vs computer element because they are both flawed. However, they get it pretty damn close, so I am confident they can pick the top 4 teams with little controversy. I say little b/c everybody will always bitch about something. One thing that Mark Richt said that I quoted earlier is this "It is up to you to win all your games. If you do not, you are at the mercy of whatever the rules are." To all USC fans, beat Cal (I didnt know Berkenstock made cleats) and you would not be crying right now.
Like I responded to your identical post on another thread, the two teams who are actually the best two teams will be playing for the NC in the Sugar Bowl. USC is a good team but if they were in the SEC or the Big 12 or even the Big 10/11 they would have lost two or three games. Did they get screwed by the BCS? Of course they did. We all knew going into this weekend that one of the three top 3 teams was going to be royally F*CKED by the BullCrapSystem. I actually feel sorry for them but not so sorry that I would have LSU trade places with them. The BCS sucks but I find it hard to believe that so many Tiger fans are outraged by OU being selected instead of USC. OU played one crappy game but so did LSU. I would have preferred that LSU play an udefeated OU team but those are the breaks. LSU would beat the crap out of USC but now the Tigers have to face a team that would also beat the crap out of USC. Lets all focus on getting pumped up for the Sugar Bowl against a great team who unfortunately was good enough not to come out flat and play a bad game until Saturday. OU will have their A Game faces strapped on tight on Jan. 4th in the Dome and the Tigers need to bring their A game once again. Lets all concentrate on that instead of worrying about the whining of a bunch of white wine sipping surferdudes.
I think if you invited Michigan, the Texas and Ohio State would feel rooked. I think OU is a waaaaaaaaay better team than USC. And they would be walking out of all our conferences with 3 losses.
That should not be the case at all. Texas lost by 50, they dont deserve top 10 much less top 4. Ohio State also has no right to complain, via a loss to Michigan. Head to head still has to matter. You have to draw a line somewhere. Truth is once you lose once you are at the mercy of the rules, much less twice. Anybody who is arguing SOS is not a good thing(some USC hoo-rahs) also need to remember TCU. Again, this system is very close to being the real deal. A major tweak here (4 team playoff) and a minor tweak or two there and nirvana.
I think the BCS could sole a lot of heartache by making a rule that to be eligible for the title game you must be champion of your conference. They should have done this after Nebraska snuck in a few years ago. They should at least put some type of bonus, like -2 on winning your conference so that teams like OU can't get in. And if they go to this every conference should have to have a championship game.
