...after winning a game like that in a place like that. Guilbeau set the scene beautifully: http://www.acadiananow.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051114/COLUMNISTS13/511140334/1006/SPORTS
There are about 3 teams in the country that would have won that game after the first half played by Bama...and 2 of them are ranked ahead of LSU.
Yeah, it's hard to understand how any fan would be complaining immediately after a huge win against a highly ranked team on the road. I won't say I'm shocked at some of the things I read on this board yesterday, but it is certainly odd behavior by people who claim to be fans. If you weren't happy Saturday night, you probably aren't happy very often...
I agree, I don't understand why anyone would complain. We will never play that good of a defense again this season. I seems like people are taking that win for granted.
What's really getting stupid is all the talk during the early season against Arizona State, Mississippi State, etc. people were saying, you can't play that way and beat Auburn, Florida, Alabama. After we played Appalachian State, people were saying we can't play like that against Bama and win. Now we beat Bama, Florida, and Auburn, what now? When is winning going to be enough?
As fans we have been spolied. We need to be more realistic and not always expect perfection. More fans need to focus on the most important quality of a team. HEART! and LSU defintly has it.
You know, I spent all spring and summer on the Auburn and Alabama boards denying that unrealistic LSU fans were spoiled by Nick Saban. They said that no coach would ever be acceptable to LSU fans unless he went undefeated and won a national championship each and every year. It's going to be worse than Bama fans eating Curry alive after Bryant, they said. I said no, LSU fans went throught 8 losing seasons in the 90's including 6 in a row under Archer and Hallman. We have our feet firmly on the ground, I said. Nobody expects Miles to come into the SEC, inherit a strange team, hit the ground running, and win it all. We are realistic, I said, and we understand that even Nick took losses. Even Bryant and Rockne took losses. Miles will be given time and a grace period in which to work out the transition, I maintained. But I was wrong. Some of us have apparently already decided that a coach with an 89% winning record at LSU and a better record than Nick did at the same point must go. Like arrogant Bammers, we think there is some Holy right that LSU cannot lose or even look bad while winning. If we do, it is either God's will or Les Miles' fault.
No...people are taking the 2003 National Championship for granted--they feel like we have to be there every year, and get all pissy if we're not.... Having high hopes and wanting your team to compete for a National title every year is one thing, but getting completely bent out of shape if they don't is another....
