What is your opinion of the job Bo Pelini is doing as defensive coordinator?

  1. Bo, you don't know Didly. Your scheme is horrible. Bring your corners up.

Not impressed with what I saw against offense with talent. The Miss State game is not a measuring stick.

    UT Game -
There were improvements in the 1st half of the UT game. Moderate blitzing and pressure on the QB was good. Although there was potential for big plays in the 1st half by UT, but Ainge couldn't hit the side of a barn and there were a few dropped passes that would've resulted in points or big gains.

The 2nd half was nothing but prevent defense. Utterly disgusting. Whether that was Les' call or Bo's, I don't know, but it was pathetic.

    MSU Game -
Improvements appeared to be substantial, but then again it was MSU. There was a lot more blitzing and a lot of pressure on the QB. The one thing I took away from the game is that Les and Bo learend their lesson from the UT game and didn't sit on a lead for 2 qtrs. In the 2nd half, blitzing still occured often and pressure was put on the QB consistently.

Again it was MSU and lets see if Bo has the balls to attack a good team for 4 qtrs. MSU is not a measuring stick but it did show that Bo and Les learned their lesson about not squating on leads. Which means if the fans and media howl loud enough we may get through to coaches.

I voted that he'll do a great job. Things haven't looked impressive yet, but it seems to be getting better & I believe with a little more time in the system this could turn out to be a good defense. The blown assignments aren't directly his fault, it's a matter of the players learning the scheme. Also, I think that perhaps the players not knowing the scheme well enough forced Pellini into playing a more "prevent" type defense and keeping the corners off of the receivers.

I think if you just said "soft coverage" instead of prevent he may have agreed with you. :hihi:

Saturday around noon I went to my local sports bar for the games and a Gator friend told me that he watched the UT/LSU game at one of the LSU locations on Monday and that he had to laugh about all of the calls for Miles head, esepcially after the Zook ordeal and the fireronzook website before he had coached his first game. He gave me a pretty hard time about it.

About midway through the 3rd qtr of the UF/Bama game he was no where to be found, maybe he was on his way home to start a new one.

Well that's why I used the quotes around prevent... You are right though, soft coverage would have been a much more appropriate word.

I voted other and here is why!!!

I believe that Bo Pellini and the other defensive coaches are good coaches but lets face it they are new to LSU and in most cases the SEC.

In the SEC you either play good tough defense or you dont win. It is just that simple. That is why when SEC upper tier teams go out of conference they do pretty well because most other leagues are offense focused.

It did change a little when Spurrier was at Florida but Fla. still played great defense.

If the Pac 10 played good defense it would be the best conference. But instead it is a offense focused league. That is why when they go out of conference they have trouble when they face good defense teams. Except ( USC ) because as much as i hate to admit it their offense can just take over games.

I think the more games this LSU team plays the better they get because they are getting more comfortable as players and the coaches are getting a better feel for how to call their defensive schemes. Disguise them and when to challenge opposing teams.

I want to see LSU in their Auburn, Florida, Alabama games before i make my final assessment on how these coaches have adapted. But i am optimistic.

And like i said before. Players can make good coaching look bad and can make bad coaching look good simply based on how they play. Because in the final analysis it is up to them to perform on the field.

Dont discount the effect of the hurricanes on emotional attitudes of the players either. What i saw against Tenn is a team that was super high in the first half. And drained in the second half.

Other is how i voted but i am optimistic.
