How good was Petrino in the SEC...

Petrino was Auburn's offensive coordinator at Auburn for the 2002 season. It is said that he is an offensive genius, but when you compare what he did in the SEC to what we did this year, there is NO difference.

In fact, we were better offensively than Auburn was in 2002

In 2002, Auburn averaged the following per game:

    Rushing - 202 yards
    Passing - 185 yards
    Total Yards - 387 yards
    Scoring - 29.8 points
Times held under 20 points: 4 times

Now compared to LSU this year:

    Rushing - 201 yards
    Passing - 199 yards
    Total Yards - 400 yards
    Scoring - 29 points
Times held under 20 points: twice

Petrino's offensive system didn't really work too well his first time in the SEC.

    Petrino coaches in CUSA

Trust me when I say, his teams have beaten a very weak UK team. We are still recovering from the probation and lack of numbers in recruits. His recruiting is really about PAR with UK. Granted, he did get Brohm, but keep in mind his brother is on staff and his dad and brother did play for UL. The dude certainly can coach offense, but I question the defense.

I do not think Petrino is a good fit. He is a snake and not the sharpest tool in the shed. He is not good in public speaking as well (not a good mix with the fanatics in Baton Rouge).

The hire is going to come from out field, don’t be surprised if someone is named that fans never thought would be in the mix, JMO! :D

While typing this, I am listening to Jimmy Ott, what is his love affair with Nutt? I agree with Ott, Nutt can get the most with the least talent. I just do not see Nutt keeping players in straights in Baton Rouge. More trouble to be had in Baton Rouge than in Fayetteville (nothing against Baton Rouge but living there, it is my opinion).

Good topic to discuss on this one.

So his offensive stats at Louisville are only because he plays in a weak conference?
I'm sure it has to do with it.... but is it all of it?

I think you bring up a good point, but his team looked pretty good against Miami and I thought that they could have won it.

It shows you that a great offensive coach can only get so far without a decent defense.

That's unfair. He was only the OC for one year and was undoubtedly held in check by the Tubster, who had final say over what went on with his team.

Give BP some time to recruit players well suited for his offense and let him call the shots and see what happens.

Also, Jason Campbell was the QB and he didn't play worth a damn until this (his senior) year.

He was a pretty solid QB under Petrino his sophmore year.

If he does come here he has enough weapons and talent to have us scoring at least 40 a game.....now the defense is what I am worried about....we got players there to but we need a good coach....I really hope they keep Muschamp....I am sure the players would love that.
