Look guys there are obviously a lot of "angry" people in this state because of coach Miles and LSU. The funny thing is, have LSU fans really forgotten that most of the 90s were utter "embarrassment?" In 1998 and 1999, do y'all remember those 3 win seasons? It's funny that these so-called "fans" remark that we're better than that now, we have talent. Bull****, those teams had talent too. I get tired of how seemingly everyone in the state is endlessly bitching about a 10-2 season. With or without a hurricane, 10-2 is great for a first year coach in the SEC-- or anywhere for that matter. Urban Meyer is a good coach, look what happened in his first season. Players haven't yet bought into his system. Spurrier you say? Well, Spurrier knows the SEC and what it takes to win in this league, still USC is far from perfect... but they're getting there. How come when Miles was named coach, a lot of the same people who are bitching now were OK with the fact that we were going to have a learning curve and growing-pains which pretty much eradicate the advantage you have with talent? When everyone was chirping about going undefeated, deep down inside, we knew that realistically we'd drop a few games that we should have won. I guess everyone failed to realize that in those games, our Tigers wouldn't look competitive. It takes a while for players to buy into a system. How long? Who knows? I also think a coach is a lot more comfortable with guys he recruits. Who could argue that Saban had a gift of seeing beyond a player's usual role and making something greater out of him? I'm sure Saban had plans for some of these players that Miles may or may not be aware of. I'm not saying that is why there are growing pains, but it's surely a more positive scenario than, "Miles sucks," isn't it? The truth is, no one of us knows why we're not doing as well as we were hyped-up to be. What was our preseason ranking in 1998, what about Tennessee's this season? If you read this far you probably feel the same way as I do, you're happy that we're 10-2. Of course you're upset about not doing so great in the last two games, but that's natural, we love LSU. All I know is that Saban sure as hell didn't do what Miles has done in his first season. And, I'm pretty sure LSU also had a wealth of talent in 1998. I'm not going to waste time looking up rosters and trying to compare talent, but there was talent on that team. There was obviously talent on Saban's first team too. Sometimes you jsut have to stop and smell the roses and enjoy what's going on around you. :geauxtige  LSU!
Agreed. I find it odd that the same people bitching about the Miles hire are now bitching about him only going 10-2. You thought he was a crappy hire, but now you are pissed he isn't perfect? Which is it?
While I do not agree with a lot of the negative stuff said here, I am fairly certain those people DO remember those 3-win seasons. In fact I would tend to believe some of their negative comments are a results of them worrying that such days could possibly return to LSU. They are happy with ten wins but see how the team has struggled in many ways. In their pessimistic minds they feel this team could easily have been a 5-6 win team with all of the close games. So they rant on and on about the problems they perceive and hope that such things can be taken care of. So that they, like us, do not have to watch 3-win seasons ever again.
I concur with what is posted in this thread. I want, however, to clear something up about the ole ball coach. He is a good coach and there is no denying it. I'm not sure what the "big deal " is about the year South Carolina has had. Last year under Lou "The Spitting Cheater" Holtz, SC was 6-5 and but for a season ending brawl with Clemson would have played in a bowl. This year they are ONE win better and going to a bowl. Seams Spurrier did about the same with about the same players as Holtz did. What's the big deal ? Coach Miles, IMHO, has accomplished much more this year than Spurrier did (hurricanes aside) and was under alot more pressure to produce. Spurrier's team could have layed an egg this season and all would have been forgiven because the expectations at SC were so low. The SC faithful were simply happy to have him as their coach. Miles should have been selected SEC Coach of the year ... he is in my book !!!!!
To me all those close games are Tiger fans getting their money's worth. Being able to watch 60 minutes of football (or MORE in three cases) is my kind of entertainment.... I'd rather watch the Auburn game again than the MSU game....
I haven't forgotten a win or a loss. But, IMO, those guys did not look prepared for that game Saturday night in Atlanta. Not sure if it was lack of preparation or lack of enthusiasm, but there was something was missing. Anyone care to give their opinion on this. I'm not blaming the coach or the players but something was far from right, especially at an SECCG. However, good post.
Neither....JayB. Look, Miles being coach of the year is laughable. He has really looked dumb at times and doesnt appear to be the sharpest pencil in the box but having held this group together through what happened is enough for me. Im very happy to be at 10-2 with a better than expected matchup in the bowl game. Thats not sticking your head in the sand, its being proud of your teams accomplishments. Sure there has been some stumbling along to way but Jays post is only pointing out what many thought when Miles was hired. Being the LSU coach isnt easy. Miles has a LONG, LONG way to go and I dont know if he is completely up for the job or not but he hasnt failed miserably and must be afforded reasonable time to get accustomed to the job. If he needs a few more 10-2 years to adjust, Im alright with that. :thumb:
