I did not know that Blanco's husband is a big ULL supporter and a high up at ULL, a Vice-Chancellor or something like that. I just read that Foster thinks her husband will run the state if she is elected.

I do not know anything about Jindal's view towards LSU. I know he was President of the U of L systems.

As a school and as a sports program we have had to much interference from some Governors who were really anti-LSU.

Being in Texas I do not get to hear a lot about this race, but I was just wondering which candidate would be better for LSU and let Emmeret and Bertman run things the way they want them to run?

Yeah, I heard recently about how Blanco's husband (Ray?) seems to be the type of guy that might try to exert influence if Blanco is elected. Not that I am very well informed about either candidate, but I've heard Blanco is a very nice woman that lacks the "range" to handle the responsibilities of governor. Also, she probably isn't a strong enough person to handle things on her own and would look to surround herself with other capable people. I'm sure her husband would have a few recommendations. Those "recommendations" may be running the affairs of the state if she's elected. Just vote for Jindal and everyone wins, right?

Apparently, both canidates have met with the Chancellor already, and that Blanco's Acadian support base is a big question mark for LSU. The school isn't too "up" about the prospect of her being elected since there's the possibility of more focus going to ULL.

As for Blanco lacking the "range" -- I tend to agree, I've never had much confidence in her. In most interviews I've read/seen with her, it doesn't seem like she really knows how to do things -- she just wants them done. Such as the teacher payraises, she simply said (I'm paraphrasing of course, this isn't a direct quote)"Oh -- we'll look at it down the road, maybe one day."

But anyway -- back to the topic at hand, I'm not TOO worried, but at the same time Blanco has me worried for LSU.

Foster indicated that several of the names from the Edwards transition team were major donors to her campaign, and would likely appear on her transition team. Foster called this something like going back to the way it used to be. Thats the conservative slant, anwyay.

Jindal loves LSU, and is in favor of strengthening its position as the flagship univ of the state. IMO, I think that Ray Blanco would use his wife's position to direct more funding to the "other" La univs and away from LSU. While I support the "other" La univs, I think we need to maintain LSUs research level and credibility, and attempt to raise them to a higher level.

Yeah, I believe captainpodnuh is right as far as Jindal's concerned. If you go to his website (www.bobbyjindal.com) and read his vision of Louisiana, he speaks very strongly about strengthening the flagship university of the state and make it a key research university in the nation.

Maybe I'm a little biased being an LSU grad.

IMO, If Jindal does what he says, LSU will be much better off.

Bottom line for me is just that I REALLY don't trust Blanco. Especially after hearing how much pull her husband may have in her decisions. I like the vibe I get from Jindal a lot more. Secondly, I don't believe anyone who's been in Louisiana government as long as Blanco has can really be expected to turn the state around. We need new ideas, and that's what Jindal can provide.

This thread was supposed to be about how the race will affect LSU. Before Brett moves it out, let me say this.

Turnout will more or less decide the outcome. If the conservatives get out and vote in greater numbers, and those who voted for Ieyoub and Leach stay away from the polls, Jindal will have a chance. Don't look for Ieyoub or Leach votes to cross over party line. The NO turnout will be low since Landrieu won outright; there is no drive to carry metropolitan NO voters to the polls. 2/3 of the voters in this state live S of I-10, so that is where the election will be won. Interesting enough, Jindal carried Lafayette in the primary, considered part of Blanco's home region. A key lobbyist told me last week that the results will be close, even as close as 51-49.

I saw Jindal in Lot A tailgating...It may just be a political move, but at least he is there front and center...I think Jindal is prepared to funnel a lot of money to LSU and try and do to it what Texas did with UT or what Florida did with UF...Both are nationally recognized public universities...
