Yes I know he is still LSU's coach but I think the majority of us have seen the writing on the wall.. So I ask, will the incoming coach get the Ron Zook treatment from us. Lets face it, LSU fans have tasted the fruit and it is good. Our expectations have been set. Some fans on this board were complaining about 9-2 and not being in the SEC title game (not many but a small few). So I wonder what coach will want to walk into a very rabid fan base, will we pine for Saban IF the program starts to decline (which it very may will based on precedent of this very situation at other national champions such as Nebraska, and Ga Tech) Will LSU fans start the Firecoachname.com campaign. I just know how passionate we are, will we give a coach a chance at this point, if so how long for us to get over the Saban years... What will we expect from an incoming coach...
It should depend on who it is to see if they get the fireronzook.com treatment. In my mind if it is somebody like Glenn Mason, then yes, I'll have my fireglennmason.com website fired up and online by this Friday. But if we're talking about Butch or a Shanihan or a Frank Beamer guy.....I'll be happy. Although I don't want Nick to go, it will be interesting and hopefully eye-opening to see who is interested now. Now that we know what can be done here, I agree that expectations will still be high and I hope we don't settle for mediocre or less like many did for so long. (and still are with basketball)
It has to be an intense, high-energy guy who embraces, and does not run from, the situation he inherits. Not only are LSU fans passionate, but they know this team is poised to win big. Now. The new coach knows he better win. More specifically, I think a coach known for his offensive prowess and known for success in developing QBs will go over very well with the fan base. Many of us think success in 2005 rests squarely on the shoulders of whomever lines up behind center, so a guy who has a rep for developing QBs should get approving nods from most fans. BTW, very nice to see Skip come out and flat-out state a new coach will not come "from within." No need to go Mike Archer on this loaded, top 10 caliber program, no way, not again.
Question is, Saban showed you win with Defense... You can be good with Offense (See the Ro-Reed years) but to win big you must win with a D... Offensive mind would be great, but without a defense in the SEC you are cooked, hence I think Urban Meyer will be a failure in UF.. Yes I am aware of Spurrier at UF and all the Offense, BUT times have changed in the SEC.
