What happens if Cal and Texas finish 3 and 4 respectively (i.e, Auburn loses one or both of their final two games), and Utah finishes # 6. There are only two at large berths in the BCS, however from what I've read 3 teams (Cal, Texas, and Utah) would be "guaranteed a berth". What am I missing?

Great question, and I was actually confused about that myself. Brad Edwards answered that question in his chat today. Texas would be left out. Cal would get the automatic bid for being No. 3, and Utah would get the automatic bid for being No. 6. Texas would be left out in the cold again.

k, thanks for clearing it up. The NCAA needs to take the word "guaranteed" out of the language then. Does anyone have the exact language regarding the rules. Thanks

I thought the top 6 ranked BCS teams were guaranteed a BCS bowl bid. On second thought I believe it is more like...... If a non-BCS conference school finishes ranked in the top 6 of the BCS, then they are guaranteed a BCS bowl.

I'll trust what DarkHornet says on this one though.

yes, it's non-bcs top 6. It's top 4 for bcs conference, that's the confusion. You could have 3 teams (Cal, Texas, and Utah) "guaranteed" spots with only 2 spots available.

I think you'll find all the answers you are looking for in here if you look hard enough. I don't have time at the moment to find the exact wording, but it's all covered here.

Please tell me if I have it right. The big 6 conference winners get 6 BCS spots, no matter where or if they are ranked in the BCS. There are 2 at larges. If the top 2 teams were not in the big 6 conference winners they would get the at larges no matter where they were from (small conference or big conference runner ups). If there was a big conference runner up in 3 or 4 they would get an at large spot (assuming the 1 and 2 spot did not both go to at larges). However, if there were 2 big conference runner ups in 3 and 4, the one in 4 would not get a spot if a small conference team was in 5 or 6 (same assumption). And if there were 2 small conference teams in 5 or 6, only spot 5 would get a BCS bowl if there were an at large in spots 1-4.

Please remember, this is a question, I am not sure if this is correct or not. Thanks.

Yes, I believe all of that is correct.
