If Matt Mauck returns for his last season as LSU's QB, does LSU go to the Orange Bowl ? Based on our play to date minus QB play to date.
I was thinking the very same thing -- wondering if anything would've been different had MM stayed on this year. Don't get me wrong though, I'm happy with an 8-2 record and not complaining. I'm not one to think in a "woulda, shoulda, coulda" mode.
I say no but we would be 9-1. Georgia was lights out that day and would have been tough for anyone to beat.
It's hard to say. The defense wasn't as dominating. The offensive line has struggled much of the year, and our kicking game and special teams has flat out stunk it up almost all year long. That's a lot for just one position on the team to make up. I think we beat Auburn early in the year but still lose to Georgia (but closer). And I think all the poor games we played like OSU, Troy, Alabama and Ole Miss (from an offensive standpoint) would all have been big wins instead. So I think we would be about #4 or #5 in the nation with Mauck with one loss.
Excellent point. They were out for blood that day. The Auburn game -- I think we're looking at a different result. I think more than anything else, it's the leadership aspect that's missing this year.
Leadership maybe even on the defensive side of the ball as well. How we miss Jack Hunt. So we lost 2 QBs from last year, in a sense.
Yea Jack was a great defensive leader... see Florida 19-7 ... who from defense was missing ?? Jack Hunt himself
I was gonna bring up the coaching of our QBs as well. But in looking back at the last few years, you can't even begin to question our ability to teach our QBS, as Davey and Mauck are excellent examples of great work in that area. So I would guess a lot of this has fallen on JR's shoulders, and the work ethic that a lot of people on here have questioned.
