Maybe Bertman should just announce that Jimbo will take over the program and Muschamp will be retained as DC as well as picking up Al Borges as new OC. Im tired of these so called "Big Names" that are actually far from it. I could see being excited by talking to the likes of Stoops, Carroll, Chow, Tedford, Francione, Tressell, etc... but Petrino, Miles, Nutt, Davis (but he declined), Del Rio (will not leave), is just not as exciting.
I wouldn't say excited, but at the same time, look what we were coming off of... it was easy to get excited about anyone over Dinardeaux. Now that we have tasted the good life, who wants to go back to mediocrity.
Its unlikely any candidate is going to get the overwhelming approval of the fans but its very likely that certain candidates mentioned will get the overwhelming wrath of the fans. Hopefully its not one of those.
I think if we landed a TedFord or Chow the fans would be very excited, but if we landed a Nutt or Miles I don't think we would expect Rose Bowl '05 like we are.
Exactly what makes you think Borges would make a lateral move within the conference to serve under a former OC 10 or so years his junior? Especially with the big raise that CTT just negotiated for all his assistant (Borges, I guarantee you, got a huge one). I don't see it. Now if you said Borges for head coach, you might have something.
Because we can pay him more, and have better facilities and a better chance to win a NC next year... if Borges is on another staff that goes undefeated and wins a NC his head coaching stock with rise infinitely, besides Auburn is not the end all, be all in college football.
Its pretty obvious to most... Saban put alot of school funds into improving the athletic facilities, LSU has a bigger bankroll to spend on an OC now that Saban has hit the road (can get away with paying a new coach cheaper). Plus if Borges goes to the Rose Bowl next year with LSU and has the 12-0 Burner season on his resume people will start talking. But I don't suppose an Aubie can put 2 and 2 together.
