about how he thought Butch would be a great fit here. If that is true then it sounds like the deal has already been done both for Saban in Miami and Butch at LSU. I for one think he is the best hire we could make at this juncture in the game.

i dont want him to leave, but i think if he is mentioning people as possible replacments for the job that he currently has, what does that say about his plans??

What was the question he was responding to? Context will give some meaning. Did he just blurt out BUTCH DAVIS? Jeez, I never seen such a bunch of overreacting people in my life. I swear, I think about my dead old great aunts everytime I read through the threads today.

it wasn't a question, he came out and addressed the situation before taking questions and during that period he mentioned butch davis.

I don't know much about Butch Davis but I keep hearing that he was a great recruiter. However, I did look up his records of each season he was at Miami and there seems to be a bit of a drop off when Butch was at the helm. He seemed to underachieve for the amount of talent Miami had at the time and given the fact that each of the last five coaches at Miami won a national title except for Davis. I'm not saying he wouldn't be good at LSU(if it came down to it), just bringing some interesting facts to light.

    Jimmy Johnson....8-5....10-2....11-1....12-0.....11-1.....11-1

    Dennis Erickson.....10-2.....12-0.....11-1.....9-3....10-2

    Butch Davis.....8-3.....9-3.....5-6....9-3.....9-4.....11-1

    Larry Coker....12-0....12-1.....11-2

Also note that he stayed there the longest (along with JJ) and was the only one(of the last five coaches) not to win a national title, even though he came close in 2000. Howard Schnellenberger was the coach before Jimmy J. and he even won a NC. Dennis Erickson and Larry Coker won a NC in their very first years and Butch had six years and couldn't win one.

One last note, of those four coaches I posted records of, Davis was the only one to have a losing season. In fact the only other coach to come close to a losing season was JJ at 8-5.

He may be a good coach when it boils down to it, but those numbers make one wonder if he underachieved while at Miami.
