I am a Contributor to a Husker site, Huskerzone.com. This is a Husker site for Husker fans by Husker fans. As a contributor, I have the ability to post stories that users reply to. This is a small web site, and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that this one does. However, I'm emothionally attached and it's fun for me. As part of that fun, I started a weekly column that I co-author with a friend Titled "The Coin Toss". Each week we select a topic and take oppisite sides of an arguement or issue. I usually end up playing the "Bad Guy" and take the unpopular view (according to most Husker fans). This is where I need your help. This weeks debate is whether or not Nebraska fans are the Best in college football. Although I think they are  , I have agreed to take the opposite view. I plan on arguing that LSU fans are the Best. Give me some amunition to make my point. We are hoping to post the story before Christmas -- I'll let you know when it does.
Night games allow Tiger fans to tailgate all day long, by nighttime, we're worked into a frenzy, crowd so loud registered on the richter scale (Earthquake game) known for sharing food and drink with rival fans (ater the obligatory taunt of "Tiger Bait") much more, I'll let my Tiger compadres provide some more.
How about some ammo from a non-LSU fan base? PAC 10 fans, at that. Hope it helps strengthen your case. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=166&p=2&c=567527
Ohhh ed...great thread to lead us into our national championship week!! This will be more fun to read and participate in! I will tell you my favorite recent experience! This season! This season I have remet old friends that have become as good of friends as they were in high school. Also I have met a whole other group of friends here and wouldn't trade either group for my life! All of this happened through tailgates and home games (went to more this year then last). Don't know if this will help any as I am sure somebody on the other side will have stories close, but I traveled from orlando to br for two home games this year and will be in nola for the national championship! Hey wee...keep gloom and doom away from this thread...actually nevermind give him free reign! He is a great fan and probably can tell some of the best stories with you. 327 tell about your bell! What fun this thread will be! Thanks for the idea! I am sure I will have more to come!
Very interesting. I am unsure if we have the "best fans" as I would have to say you have to be passionate just to live in Nebraska, much less be a husker fan. That may be a hard thing to prove. I will say that I firmly believe we have a game day/stadium experience that is unrivaled. 1) People in the South are friendlier - to everyone. 2) Food in the South is better - arguably the best in South La. 3) Warmer weather in the South for longer 4) Our women look better - they wear less clothes because of the heat(you just can't argue with that!) 5) We throw a better party - Do millions of people from all over the world flock to Lincoln once a year or New Orleans? That mentality shapes how La people everywhere in the world party. If your party is too low key, invite someone from La. and it is immediately fixed. 6) Night Games - 7pm kickoffs insure 7-14 hrs worth of eating, drinking, meeting 7) Night Games - the above reasons insure that we are one of the loudest stadiums for opposing teams anywhere in the country. One day the stadium will collapse from our collective screams. 8) Mike the Tiger - Lots of teams are called tigers but only one has a real Tiger for a mascot. You can go to the store and buy a husk of corn, or a pet store and get another dog. Our mascot is just a step above everyone else. 9) Omaha - What other fanbase travels well enough to change the nature of the food venders in Nebraska for baseball?? You can get Cajun food at the College World Series because our teams dominated the 90's and the fans traveled to see them. 10) What coaches/players say about playing in Tiger Stadium - http://www.tigerstadium.com/quotes/lsu3.swf
I'll give you a little personal history that hopefully will provide some insight as to why LSU fans are unlike any other fan base in college football. I'm an old fart who went to LSU in the '60s. I remember listening to games on the radio as a kid including Billy Cannon's Halloween TD run against the Rebs. John Ferguson & Walter Hill got me hooked on the Tigers. I spent 20 years in the Air Force in the pre Internet days and was not able to follow my Tigers as closely as I would have liked. I got transferred to CO in the early 70s and would listen to LSU games on the radio from a 50,000 watt station in Shreveport. I was dating my future wife at the time and she couldn't understand it. 34 years later she now has a better understanding of what it's like to be married to a Tiger. Thanks to an old high school buddy I made my first trip back to Tiger Stadium since I was a student in 2003. The stadium capacity had been increased by 35,000 or so and the enthusiasm of the fans was more rabid than it was in the '60s. Thanks to the Internet and expanded TV coverage I'm able to follow the Tigers as if I were still living in LA. LSU is the flagship university of the state. Everybody else is a distant second. The people of LA embrace LSU football with a passion that is difficult to put into words. You have to experience a Saturday night in Death Valley to even begin to appreciate it. In 50+ years of following LSU football we've had our ups & downs, but one thing remains constant. I've never stopped loving my Tigers. We're experiencing some damn good times in the 21st century and I'm loving every minute of it. Hell, I've got my 3 year old granddaughter saying Geaux Tigers and I think she understands why Grandpa's eyes get a little misty when he hears those first 4 notes of Pregame. Edited to Add: I just thought of something else that makes Tiger fans unique. James Carville & I are on the opposite ends of the political spectrum. But I'll guarantee you that we could spend 24 hours together eating Cajun food and talking about our Tigers and not a cross word would be said.
Dang it the dude! Told you I would have more to contribute. So I was in atlanta last week and at the bar in the hyatt I met a crew of people from omaha! They were telling me how much they miss lsu in the cws! They say the whole city is more fun when we are there! They said that even sitting at home watching the news is a blast to see what our crazy fans will be doing! Also they said we are the only fan base that even though it has been awhile since we have been back there are still a big group of lsu fans that still go to the cws and have signs that say "lsu's home, we will be back soon, so watch out!" Great story to hear away from home and from people way far from home!
espn's the road warrior, best college tailgating scenes.... #1, lsu http://sports.espn.go.com/travel/columns/story?columnist=caple_jim&id=3037293 1. LSU Nobody cooks like the Cajuns. Walking among the tailgaters here is like strolling through one of Emeril Lagasse's restaurants. RW once joined a group serving jambalaya, duck and oyster gumbo, stuffed quail, deer sauce picante, wild duck, cochon de lait, Cajun sausage, crawfish etouffee, rabbit, alligator stew and marinated pork tenderloin. And that was for a non-conference game. More important, LSU plays most games at night, which means you have an entire day to soak it in. The only downside is you may not be able to get yourself into the stadium by the time kickoff rolls around.
