I think Miles would be a very solid hire, what's the problem??

I am not really sure why everyone is down on him so much, he really doesn't have a whole lot to work with at Oklahoma State and has done pretty well there.

I saw someone say that his Okie State teams have a habit of slipping down the stretch, I looked up his record at cfbdatawarehouse and saw that they won their last two games in his first season (uping their record to 4-7 from 2-7, including a win against Oklahoma) they won their last 4 games of 2002 and in 2003 lost only to Oklahoma, Texas, and a narrow loss to an Ole Miss team that came within 3 points of beating our eventual national champions. This year they did drop 4 out of their last 5 after starting 5-0, but remember where he is doing this. Saban went either 7-5 or 6-6 in every season but his last at Michigan State.

Plus he is a really passionate guy who looks like he will have no trouble motivating players. If he plays it smart and brings in some good X's and O's guys to balance that out, we will have a pretty good combination.

Also I can think of several high quality players to come out of Okie State the last few years, showing that the man can obviously recruit and develop talent. You have to look at the circumstances in which he arrived at Okie State, a school that had suffered 10 losing seasons in the previous 11 years before he got there. he beat Oklahoma his first year, and has reeled off 3 bowl seasons in a row in a school and division that is very tough to consistently compete, that is pretty impressive to me.

Exactly! Last season, with RaShaun Woods (sp?), they tore things up in the passing game, and were impressive running the ball (as OSU generally is). This season, they played the entire year with their #3 guy! (starter from last year graduated. Their starter from this year was injured) and were still 8th in the nation in passing efficiency--which tells me that he coaches to his team's strength and personel.

OSU had the 8th-ranked rushing offense in the nation. They were 111th in the pass, but like I said above, they were playing without their starter for the entire year and dispite their 111th ranking, the fact that they were 8th in passing eff. tells me that when they passed, they made it count.

didnt they also have the situation with their #1 QB who left to go play baseball or something? I remember because I had to make him crappy in NCAA 2005 to keep the rosters realistic.

In my opinion it's because what Skip said regarding how "surprised" the LSU fans would be at the names under consideration. After the buildup, Miles is certainly a letdown.

Time will tell if Les Miles will be a good coach for LSU, but I don't think he is a marquee name, and that is what most LSU fans thought they were getting.

Simply put, LSU fans thought they could get "More Mileage" out of someone besides "Les Miles". I couldn't resist.

The last couple of weeks have been tough on most tiger fans. I'm sure everybody will hop on board in due time. After all, maybe we can "More with Les".

Who knows, maybe that's who Skip was talking about and he forgot that we're mostly novice when it comes to scouting. :)

One things for sure about this whole ordeal and thats "winning cures everything".

Miles may never shake those that feel that his hire (or "rumored hire") was the "best that we can do", but once he starts winning, everyone will be on board.

Yeah Josh Fields left to play baseball otherwise they would of been more balenced and explosive on offense this year....

We should be good fans and support our new coach.

That said, let me make you aware of the facts. Miles's coaching experience now is much less than Saban's coaching experience in Nov 99. Miles's coaching succes is less than Saban's coaching success in Nov 99.

I have researched the facts on the internet, and this is the simple truth. I have NO IDEA how successful Miles will be at LSU. However, the fact remains is that the coach that we hired in Nov 99 had a much better pedigree than the Coach Miles has right now. I do not know why LSU had to hire a coach in Jan 05 with less credentials and accomplishments than the coach we hired in Nov 99, but this is simply the TRUTH.

I wonder if Saban new that LSU was going to extend an offer to Miles when he made the comments regarding his staff. If so, it certainly makes sense why he would be disappointed his coaching staff did not get more consideration.

It would also, to a certain extent, explain his rather cryptic comments about
politics being involved in the process, i.e., the BoS putting heat on Skip to hurry up and name a coach.

Les Miles is definately a surprise.

Let me first say that I will get behind any coach hired and have been to every home game since 1994 (first year in college) and most road games since then, but...

Before I get to Les Miles let me start with Skip. RC Slocum? Are you kidding me? LSU should have not let it get out that he was ever contacted. I am sorry but a requirement to get an interview should have been not getting fired from your last college gig. Second he sends a contigent to Jacksonville and doesn't even get an interview and allow the press to find out. He has completely embarrased LSU with his search.

Now onto this mistake of a coaching search and hire. I know its not formal yet but LSU would have rebuked it by now if not true.

I would rather take a chance on a hot much younger assistant coach than a 51 year old coach (that does not have a million dollar buyout:cuss:), that hasn't exactly set the world on fire along any of his stops. I don't want to hear any comparisons to Saban. Saban's last year he was 9-2 not 7-4. Saban was also a defensive coordinator in the NFL not a position coach like Miles. Miles and his coordinators did not show me any imagination on either side of the ball in the three OSU games I watched this year. First game was the Oklahoma game, which Oklahoma miscues allowed OSU to stay in the game and almost win. Second game OSU has a 35-7 lead on UT and choked it away to Mack Brown for god's sake. Last game was 33-7 blowout in the Alamo Bowl where Jim Tressel and Ohio State completely outclassed him and his staff. He also runs a 4-2-5 defense. What the hell is that? :cuss:

Miles obviously has the same character problems/issues that Petrino has because he just signed a contract extension just like Petrino. Why isn't that being mentioned? I would not trust any coach that is willing to leave for another college job after just signing an extension the same month. Saban left for the NFL totally different deal.

This guy is a Michigan grad. - If Michigan comes a calling where do you think he will go? Lloyd Carr isn't the youngest coach around either. Don't think a guy who signed an extension this month then takes another job in the same monthe wouldn't leverage any possible (hopeful) success at LSU to get one of the top 3 jobs in America. At least with Saban, I never felt he would leave LSU for another college job.

He is an offensive minded guy. I prefer defensive coaches. Defense wins championships.

He is not the big name that can save recruiting this year. I am sure that none of these kids have even heard of him. At least Petrino has name recognition out of the two crappy candidates interviewed.

I feel with this guy LSU is taking a bigger chance than just promoting Jimbo Fisher or even Will Muschamp or another hot assistant coach at another school. Even Petrino would have been more exciting.

This coaching search has again proven to me that we LSU fans (myself included) have an inflated view of ourselves nationally. This job must not have been as attractive as I thought.
