....more than 3 losses in any year is unacceptable. We were at that level with Saban, and I think that we should continue to hold the standard high, whoever comes in as the head coach. With extenuating circumstances such as Iowa's catastophic RB situation maybe more, but no more than 3 losses will be acceptable in my eyes. Any more and we're moving backwards. As badly as I feel we played this year, we still only lost 3. We could easily have won @ Aub. and the Cap1 Bowl. Of course, Nebraska had a similar standard and this year with a switch they paid for it. Still, we should win the overwhelming majority of our games in and out of the SEC. What do you think?
You said Nebraska... Thats sums up my opinion. If we get to be like UF fans all we will do is churn through coaches until we lose so many recruits and have to hire cast off coaches and we become Nebraska. We are in the SEC, we will win some and lose some. Yeh we could have easily won Auburn but could have easily lost to Troy State, Ore State and Ole Miss. Who was our coach ???? My point, lets not become a fan base that has expectations that runs our program into the ground. IE Nebraska
What do I think? I think we've all been kidding ourselves about where this program really stands. This whole coaching search C/F and that "huge list" of "big-name candidates" that Skip kept talking about showed me that. Way overinflated self-image. What do I think? I think that given the circumstances of the last 2 1/2 weeks, including that fluke loss yesterday, if someone had deliberately set out to torpedo and scuttle the entire LSU football program, they could not have done a better job. All in 2 1/2 weeks. THAT'S the level I think this program is at right now. I'm sorry about all the negativity, but this has been a trying 2 1/2 weeks. I really hope things start looking better, I'm just not real optimistic at the moment.
As long as we have consitant QB play we won't lose more then 3 games. We should hire the QB coach from Hawaii.
G-Man... Your thoughts are an exact reflection of mine. These last 2 1/2 weeks have just flat out sucked as an LSU fan. As I mentioned in a different post in all my years as an LSU fan this has been the most dissapointing, from putting out a brand new National Title flag and being at the mountain top to this. Who knows what the future holds, but 11 months ago..I never saw this coming...
I agree. Even in bad seasons, elite programs like Michigan, Texas, OU, FSU, Miami etc... never have less then 8 wins a season, and therefore I think that LSU football should stay on that level. This year was a rebuilding year and we squeezed out 9 wins... less then 8 wins a season is a failure.
From purely a sports/athletic perspective, sure I agree. Taking everything else into consideration though, football is a miniscule part of LSU.
And in 2002, Saban finished 8-5 and a loss to Texas after being up at halftime. We finally start getting recognized, and people want to sit and talk like we've been on top of the mountain forever and a day....
