Amen I am growing so damn tired of this crap every single year.. I love Saban, I hope he stays here until he retires. But I am getting close to I dont give a crap anymore.
Oh for the goood ole days When we had Curly Halllman as HC we had peace of mind, never worrying if someone would lure our coach away. Even after Dinardo had some success the rumors sprang up that he was being considered for the Notre Dame job. Now, with Nick Saban, someone is always rumored to be after our coach. Oh the anxiety. Can't we bring back Curly?
You hit the nail on the head, and it's a crying shame. Loyalty is the thing that separates college football from the NFL. And when loyalty plays second fiddle to business (money money money money), we all lose. Sadly, that's just the way the world turns.
I think Nick's been plenty loyal. He's one of the very best at what he does. Why deny him the chance to challenge himself against the very best in the business? He's not getting any younger, you know. Miami's a good situation for him and, if he wants to go to the NFL someday (which he obviously does), I say go sooner rather than later so we can move on. LSU's loaded with talent. Nick won't leave us totally in a lurch and, I would imagine, may even help in a sense in giving Skip his thoughts on any NFL types who'd like to apply for the job.
I'm sure all of us are tired of the persistent threat of the NFL luring our coach away, but I have to think I'd much rather have him and go through this every year than the alternative. If he leaves he will leave this program in incredible shape, right up there with the best in college in both facilites and the overall strength. I would have to think we would be an attractive job for many great coaches. And their can't be any loyalty by the coaches if you ask me, just look at what has happened this year in the coaching ranks. Coaches can get fired for one lousy or mediocre season because the institutions themselves are not loyal either.
