I was watching the Fox Sports LSU Bowl preview and they asked Coach Miles about the opportunity of playing Michigan in the Rose. He started off with the "Oh it be an honor" stuff and then he went on to say once the band started playing it be hard not to sing the words... Also said it be very difficult to look at Michigan as an opponent, and looking at ND as an opponent makes him feel better. If Miles has 1 or 2 more seasons like he has had the last 2 years... we better start looking for a coach cause Michigan is gonna hire him.
i saw that too. you could definitely see the admiration for mich. but i don't think lloyd carr's going anywhere for a while.
I woudln't put too much into that, he's a Michigan grad. I don't blame him, you should have some admiration for your alta mater. Plus he has a buyout clause specifically for Michigan that is really high, i don't remember the exact number. The pressure to win is just as high there as it is here maybe more since they have a big rival. I don't see Miles leaving.
Good God! Now we have Miles going to Michigan two years down the road when there is not even a hint that Michigan will even be looking for a coach. Talk about a negative mindset.
Miles is not like Saban. He would never leave one job for a better opportunity (at least that's what my friends in Stillwater tell me). It's amazing that as many schools and NFL teams that have gone after Miles and he is still staying at LSU.
Ugh...no offense, but Carr HAD Michigan in line for the National title game until the "human element" of the BCS voted Florida ahead of the Wolverines. Michigan is in very capable hands under Lloyd Carr; he runs a respectible program, he has tons of national recognition, and they continue to win games and are consistantly ranked in the top 10. Carr isn't going anywhere for awhile. Plus, Miles faces a very stiff penalty if he ever decideds to leave LSU for Michigan. Miles would owe LSU about $2 MILLION dollars in fines (if memory serves me right) for leaving...and NOT just for leaving LSU for any school but specifically if he left LSU for Michigan. You don't agree to that kind of contract if you plan on jumping ship before your contract is over. Sure, I understand that 2 million dollars is "chump change" for the dominant programs in college football; schools like Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Texas, USC, etc. would be more than capable of picking up that kind of tab....but chances are Michigan won't have to. Lloyd Carr is going to be there.
Michigan has the history over LSU, no denying that. Although I dont think anyone would say Michigan is an upgrade from LSU. LSU is establishing itself as a premiere college football team. I dont think Miles would think twice to leave though because its his alma mater. Other than that I dont see him leaving LSU for any other job. I agree with whats been said that Carr probably isnt going anywhere, at least not in the immediate future.
Plus, in an article when Miles first came down, I remember reading something where he mentioned his wife's desire to stay down south--and how she wasn't a fan of the cold weather climates.
All of these threads that are what ifs are amazing during the slow time of the year. I got one for you. According to Al Gore the hurricanes are going to continually become worse. If this happens we might not have any LSU athletics to worry about one of these years!
