Talking to a co-worker from Louisiana today I busted out in tears. My family was spared, but the devestation is just so unreal. I know we are to stubborn of a people not to rebuild, but right now it just hurts.
If this one doesn't get you, you may want to check your pulse. It really hit me last night on CNN when Aaron Brown said 'We're all southerners in one way or another tonight.' I know that's mostly just cheeseball pundit speak, but whatever. These past few days have been so tense and chaotic. It just culminated.
Guilty. I was talking to my cousin about what, if anything, we could do for displaced people locally and I just kind of tailed off into silence.
I think it's safe to say we've all run the gambit of emotions in the past four days. My chest swells with pride at all of the good things our citizens are doing and my heart pounds with rage at the lawlessness of the looters in NO.
You're not human if this hasn't affected you emotionally. I've been off all week as a result Katrina and been glued to the TV/radio/internet getting as much info as I can. I had to take a break from all of that for awhile today to clear my head. Ended up riding around BR, then found myself at the store buying supplies and dropping it off at the Salvation Army. Got back home and felt bad for not buying more, so I made a 2nd trip. All this from someone who has been called heartless on more than one occasion. :hihi:
I tell you what: If I had any say in the matter, there would be blood in the water. Drop those bastards where they stand and pull their bodies out last.
Especially the *ssholes that are taking shots at cops and rescue workers. Anyone, who has a gun on the streets should be shot first and ask questions later. Breaking news on Fox as I write this: Greta says that all cops rescueing people have been called back to stop the violence in the city!
Not sure if it's all the cops, but Nagin has pulled 1500 cops off of search and rescue to handle the thugs. Disgusted and furious with the lawlessness of looters who have put fear into citizens, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin declared Martial Law in the city and directed the city's 1,500 person police force to do "whatever it takes" to regain control of the city. Nagin said that Martial Law means that officers don't have to worry about civil rights and Miranda rights in stopping the looters. WWL
