As much as I hate to say it he did things tonight that defy explanation. 1) At the end of the half he runs the kick team onto the field after Russell's second down scramble when all we had to do was hurry up to the line of scrimmage, spike the ball and THEN send our kick team onto the field to kick a field goal to end the half. 2) Playing for the overtime with 2:00 minutes left in the game when we've been outscored 17-0 in the 4th quarter and the defense was tired and barely holding on. I guess he figured momentum was on our side! That was a slap in the face to our offense and let them know that the coaches had no faith in their ability to drive down the field for a shot at a winning FG. 3) Finally, the real coup de gras, trying to call our last time out after the Landry interception. Is he some kind of F'ing RETARD? 4) Just for grins I'll throw in that fake punt in the 1st quarter from our own 10 in the Arizona State game. Big gonads or stupidity? After this performance I'm convinced it's Door #2. PS) I thought Pellini said his defense was just as aggressive as Saban's but simpler! I guess our DBs didn't get the message. I've never seen DBs so confused about who to cover.
loco I agree with everything you said except the fake punt - that was not a called play from the sidelines. Try to call a TO after we intercept the ball? Clock stops on change of possession! I didn't even know this until my buddy told me - he and his dad work the sidelines and call the injuries up to the pressbox. He said Les' asst coaches had to push him back to stop him from calling TO. In the first half of the game, NOBODY could've come into Tiger Stadium and beat us (the way we were playing). So at halftime, let's decide to play not-to-lose instead of playing to win. Also, on D, let's go back to a zone so we can be picked apart vs Az St part II. For God's sakes, in the first half, we were calling flee-flickers. In the 2nd half, run up the middle on 1st down - in the first half, we ran successfully almost everytime on the right side. I don't understand it, I really don't. UT made adjustments at halftime, we went Gerry Dinardo conservative. I will never boo LSU and will always cheer for them but I was shaking my head in disbelief the entire 2nd half. There is NO, NOT ONE, team in this country with as much talent as LSU. That is my rant - now practice hard and get ready for the Bulldogs!
forgot to mention...those of you that were at the game, did you notice Clausen? He got the ball and chunked it into the LSU student section - classy
:loco I agree with everything you said except the fake punt - that was not a called play from the sidelines.: The fake punt is a standing call. By that I mean that the punter is instructed that when the opponent doesn't cover the gunners on the outside the fake is automatically on. The problem is that most coaches tell the punter that the play is only on when you have the ball outside your own 35 yard line or so. Apparently, our coaches forgot to mention that to Chris Jackson. You can't make me believe that Chris Jackson has the go-ahead to decide to make that call on his own.
[In the first half of the game, NOBODY could've come into Tiger Stadium and beat us (the way we were playing). We looked OK at best in the first half. We have no team leader, no team chemistry, LSU lacks the KO punch that a NC caliber team has.
I'm sure it was equally as classy as the things the LSU student section were yelling at him. As an LSU fan, I thought it was very fitting. Take your lumps like a man. Clausen did.
If you are outcoached by Phil Fulmer, you are in big trouble. I agree with your assessment. If our season hinges on fake punts, blocked kicks, flea flickers, and hail Marys... we are doomed. There is a big difference between a creative offense and trickery. The defense looks dazed and confused. It's not the players. There is a look of indecision on Miles face... this transends to the team. Bo doesn't look too sure of himself either. I really don't like Rick Clausen. I was glad he left LSU, however, he is the Rocky Mountain School of the Dentally Impaired's Matt Mauck. He isn't the most physically talented, but he is the coach on the field and players believe in him. JR is a talent, but doesn't have these intangibles yet. If LSU coaches are indecisive and we don't have a leader in the huddle, we are in for a long season.
