I read through the fan guide and there are a few things/changes to be aware of. 1. The Louisiana smoking ban now applies to Tiger Stadium, this includes your seats AND the concourse. If you want to light up, you have to leave and you wont be let back in. (stupid law, and i dont even smoke) 2. Parking on the shoulders of Nicholson Dr. between North Stadium and Gourrier (i.e. those wide shoulders along the tracks south of Tiger Stadium) is now illegal before 7 pm on the friday before gameday. Those who tailgate there should plan accordingly. 3. We all know the new Alex Box in under construction, so the fairway lot has significantly less capacity than last season. To accommodate, the levee lots are now all-weather lots. But then again so was the fairway, so I suggest you get there early or risk the long muddy walk back to your car. 4. stadium cushions and seats no longer have a specific size restriction, but they will be taken if they bother the people siting left, right, or behind you. 5. Cookers of any kind at tailgates cannot be larger than 55 gallons (23'' diameter x 35" long) and cannot be in a parking space 6. Gas-powered generators are now "discouraged" but not banned or limited in any specific way. The language they use makes me fear that they might try to ban them in the near future. 7. Music speakers must be pointed at your own tailgate and must be off at midnight the night before and 2 am the night after. EDIT: I can't believe i forgot this biggie 8. There will be a Satellite Police Unit stationed in touchdown village from 5pm friday till sunday to enforce motor home policies. Looks like they are cracking down. Not mentioned, but there are a few things i saw while on campus last week. There is a new "gate house" on Dalrymple/Cypress just west of Lake St. before the greek theater. That road is still listed as open on game day, but that gate must have some purpose. The new dorms at the west end of Dalrymple/Cypress are still under construction and there is fencing to the street around most of it. The School of Music building is also under construction and there is fencing around the entire property that goes all the way to the street as well. If you tailgate near there, I suggest you take a look and plan accordingly
My son who is highly allergic to cigarette smoke is vey happy. Frankly, as long as it didn't happen in the stadium I was able to keep it away from him.
Where I tailgate we have been lucky enough to have access to electrical outlets for the last few seasons. This policy was news to me: Policy: The use of electrical outlets in or on LSU facilities, or other utilities such as water sources, is expressly prohibited. This policy will be strictly enforced and violators will be subject to arrest for theft of utilities. Reason: Overuse of utilities can cause outages, surges or shortages that may affect critical operations on the LSU campus.
There seems to be changes around the SEC as a whole. We are going to have police at the gates looking for those who are drunk. They won't be allowed to attend the games. That change, among a few others, seems reasonable. For those attending the UA game this season, you might want to go to rolltide.com and check out the gameday guides...just to make yourself aware.
My brother called me this morning and told me he had a dilemma. He could either not attend games at TS this year, or quit his 30 year smoking habit. He's giving up the butts. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Little brother, if you come on line and read this, it's one of the greatest gifts you could ever give yourself and your family. Having quit for 18 years now, I realize how dumb I was to start but how smart I was to quit.
The Nanny state in full swing here. Wow, I can't believe just how involved the governments and other organizations are to suck the fun right out of everything. Mainly talking about tailgating and cooking issues here.
As far as i know, this policy has been on the books for years, but never really enforced. Just use your better judgment and dont piss off the fuzz and you'll be fine.
I’ll try to remember to bring my better judgment to the games this year, sometimes I seem to leave it at home  And oh yeah, thanks for the summary of the changes!
The gate house is to restrict traffic on school days to faculty and students. They are trying to limit access in order to make it safer for pedestrians. But it will come in handy on game days when the band marches from the band room. The smoking ban in the tunnel is silly...I won't even try to enforce that one.
