Like most of you I was incredibly disappointed with the play of our defense tonight. However, we may be a little ahead of ourselves in blaming it all on Pelline right now...Hold on and hear me out before you all start sending nasty posts my way. Let's say for example that the first game any of us ever saw LSU play was the Georgia game last year. In that game it looked like our lord and savior Nick Saban was the worst defensive back coach EVER! We really caught a serious ass whoppin that game. And that was with 2 experienced, talented corners (not that Prude, Chevis, Joseph, etc aren't talented). Anyway, although I realize we played like total crap, games like this can happen to the best of 'em. So let's go into the Tenn game with an open mind and wait to pass judgment until after we see what Mr. Clausen does to us. If he lights us up then we will know for sure that Pellini needs to be gone.
Well it's not like ASU has no offense. To the contrary, they are one of the better offenses in the nation. And we played them on the road. I doubt seriously we give up all that yardage at TS. But the tacking was unbelievably bad.
I give Miles and Pelini a mulligan for this game due to the fact that we went into the #15 team's stadium and won the game not 2 weeks after the worst natural disaster in American history took place in our own state. The pass defense has to get better, but there was so much working against us tonight. We'll know a lot more in 2 weeks.
I understand what you're saying but there could have been a COUPLE adjustments, just one or two. and maybe there were some and I mised them. I'd have to defer to tirk or islost they're experts, but I didn't see any. I know ASU is a pass/pass team but we didn't seem to do any stunts at all. I guess Saban spoiled us there. surely he'll make some adjustments after the film.
....and we have yet to be hit with the greatest spread option offense in our times. Urban Meyer vs Bo Pelini. Ouch! It might be worse than Steve Spurrier Vs Lou Tepper
My recollection is that our secondary played well against Ga. last year. David Greene had his best game ever against us, and their top receiver (Fred?) was on fire also. Greene was putting the ball in spots where only the receiver could catch it, and the receivers held onto the ball. It was as "on" a passing display as you'll see in college. Last night was much worse. Guys were just wide open. A good QB with time just stood up and hit em. We have two weeks to get it corrected, or the top teams in the SEC will hand us our hats. One thing I will add, for all those who maligned the PAC 10, forget it, they have good athletes and they played a very good game.
Agreed, no coach should ever get fired over 1 game. Should have at least a season to try and fix things and make the proper adjustment.
Your recall is accurate. And to add Mike Godfried kept saying all night that our corners were strating out of position and even the old man could not believe they were not making adjustments. Not impressed at this point and and in my opinion Bo Peepsi still suspect. And ASU is not Georgia.
