I've seen numerous posts regarding yesterday's game, and from the cheap seats this is how they break down: --Some people say the players and/or coaches sucked big time against Arky --Some call the aforementioned idiots since the team is 10-1 and 3rd/4th in the nation I witnessed the Texas-Texas A&M game firsthand, saw some of Iowa St's and Colorado's meltdowns as well, and of course saw the entire second half of the LSU-Ark game. What struck me as interesting were the number of teams with plenty to gain this weekend (national rankings, a conference division title, etc.) versus opponents with nothing to lose (a few trying to get the 6th win for bowl eligibility among them). Considerver the past two weeks, teams like Penn St., LSU, Fresno St., Colo., Iowa St., Va Tech, Miami, Texas, S. Florida-all save for PSU, Colo. and Iowa St (facing Mich. St., Neb and Kansas, respectively, going for W number 6) facing opponents with no postseason chances to speak of at all...giving the "good" teams all they could handle and, in some cases, losing. EDIT: Oh, and add that scrappy Stanford bunch versus ND to boot. You think ND isn't interested in winning, what with having some $13 MILLION at stake in this game? There are other examples I'm forgetting, but I think you get the idea. We sometimes forget (I am guilty as well) that these are just very young men, easily distracted on occasion and none too easy to manage. We adults who have years of real-world experience and live vicariously to an extent thru the players know how to focus when the chips are down sometimes forget that there are proud, ambitious athletes on the other side of the ball who are putting more focus and intensity in this last game than probably any they'd played all season long. I know Texas A&M played like a team posessed, something the Ags hadn't shown nearly all year, and I suspect the Hogs did the same. * * Still and all, they let a team they were dominating keep things close. That's too bad, for it's all but assured that the voters and conmputers will give Penn St. a slot in the Rose Bowl should USC or Texas falter next week. What a shame, given all the hard work and luck up until yesterday that put them in a position to take advantage of a top 2 loss next week. Oh well...on to Atlanta,TIMES TWO!! LSU!
Awesome post! USC, Texas and LSU all played close ones this week. Taking a week off for the big games left to play. The Tigahs will destroy the those dam 'ol dawgs! :hihi:
