There were three one loss teams and the one with the weakest strength of schedule got left out. The only reasons they are #1 in the human polls is that they were ranked higher at the beginning of the season, lost earlier, and are a major market program that has been better the last 35 years. Those are biases in the human poll. They had the media on their side all year. They lost to a poor Cal team. If Notre Dame had won, do you think that we would be getting this love? Do you think that they would be saying that the Rose Bowl has better teams than the Sugar? No. We finally get to the National Championship and instead of enjoying the build-up I have to hear on ESPNLA round-the-clock about how it is not a real National Championship. The Pac 10 wasn't much better than the MAC this year. Average Oregon State dropped 28 on them this weekend and the OR ST QB threw a bunch of picks besides. There has been an anti-LSU bias (Trev Alberts/Dan Patrick) in parts of the national media because they are not used to seeing us this good. I hope that Michigan just rolls them, but even if we win and that happens, we will still not get our due. They'll say two loss Michigan was better or some sh*t.
Max, your post has pointed out what I have been saying for 2 days. Yes, I am pissed that the BCS and OU have put us in this position. We finally get here and becasue OU loses to KSU we risk not having a unified championship. If those idiots from OU had just won....or if the BCS had bumped OU off our plate and given us some Trojans...... I would be much happier.
I dont let it bother me.... When they say IF ND WINS, I say IF FLA beats FLA ST...... Using USC logic, we are in any way. They are saying b/c they are #1 in the human polls they should be there - well by that logic we are #2 in human polls so we should be there also. We earned it in both polls (human and computer). The rules of the game were set before the season started and we made it and they did not. On to the Sugar Bowl!!!!!!
i agree with you guys about this. I was thinking at work today how pissed I'll be if we have to share it with them. But, I blame the people who vote in the polls. There's no way in HELL that USC should've been voted #1 after the schedule they played. They played 1 ranked opponent and we played 3 or 4 and then we'll have to share the title with them. I say lets have a playoff....... best scenerio.................. Other wise get rid of the human polls and use the BCS Humans are to prejudice.
Michigan must beat USC. I will be rooting for the Wolverines almost as hard as I will for the Tigers.
It is a waste of time to worry about Los Angeles' media darling. Somehow, someway, the media will find a way to down LSU in this BCS nonsense. They will beat the drum that USC is the best team in the country until the cows come home (or the pourous Trojan defense gets hammered by Michigan). But, if we beat OU, we will be National Champs. And, the USC garbage will only serve as further motivation for the program to win the MNC a few more times to make all of the media wonks acknowledge this program.
Over time everyone will forget about the USC debacle and all that will be left is LSU's name on the records as the official 2003 National Champions. If both win, let USC, Alberts, Rome (who I no longer have ANY respect for), Herbstreit, Patrick and all the other hacks tell themselves that USC are co-national champs or whatever little bedtime story they want to hear, at the end of the day, we'll still have the trophy and the official blessing of the NCAA. Just curious- does anyone else see a parallel between USC's alleged future co-champ claim and Ole Miss' "national championships"?
The Rose Bowl is a sideshow and both teams in it. Nobody will give half a damn about USC in six months.
I totally agree, max. But, a least we're on the inside looking out. Most suspected that we would be the ones shut out of the big game. Just sit back and enjoy the moment as much as possible, because all we have to do is win one more game and we are the NCAA 03' champs.
