Is BCS ranking gonna trump anything else regarding SEC Sugar Bowl participant?

There is a legitimate scenario that suggests that Auburn, should they win out, will end up #2 in the BCS rankings over OU and Miami (see GA win and SEC CG win). Yes it will be extremely close, but it is very possible.

This means they would face USC in the Orange Bowl (assuming everyone loses to USC....notice I didn't say USC beats everyone).

Ok, that takes me my main question. LSU, should they win out, will have a legitimate shot at being the 2nd best SEC team in regards to BCS ranking. Only Tennessee and Georgia stand in our way.

Auburn can single-handedly take care of both of them, and in my scenario above with Auburn being in the NC game, obviously that would have to take place.

Georgia, in addition, has to play at Florida and at home vs. Ga Tech. Tennessee is battling it out with Alabama today, and struggling I might add. They also have to play at So. Carolina and at home vs. Notre Dame.

So should LSU finish in the top 8 in the BCS (somewhat likely) and the 2nd best team in the SEC in regards to BCS ranking, would LSU be picked to go to the Sugar Bowl?

Miami gives up 38 to Louisville and nearly get's punked yet they move into the BCS #2 slot. What's wrong with this picture?

I can tell you that Miami not having a CG game will cost them dearly as they watch OU and Auburn win theirs and surpass them in the BCS rankings.

Only OU and Auburn have a chance at #2 IMO. Miami only has Virginia left to boost their computer rankings, and OU has Texas A&M and Okla. State. Auburn has Georgia and whoever they would play in the CG.

Newsflash: Texas A&M and CU going OT right now. A&M losing is good for both Auburn and Miami. OU has to be pissed they are struggling.

Miami has to pray Va. Tech beats Ga. Tech on the road today (Vtech is a late season opponent of Miami's). Don't think it will happen though.

I envision Miami #2 in the BCS, hanging on by a thread, only to slip to #4 after all the Conference CGs are over.

I project LSU to #9 in the BCS rankings after we win out. This also counts Utah being in the top 8. Would LSU be picked by the Sugar Bowl if we are the 2nd best team in the BCS behind Orange Bowl bound Auburn?

LSU's road to top 10 BCS ranking (with Utah and Boise St. being pushed aside, basically means top 8)

    Most likely chances at losses
#5 FSU - @Wake Forest, @ NC State, vs Florida
    #6 Wisconsin - vs. Minnesota, @ Iowa
#7 Utah - non BCS conference, ignore
#8 Cal - vs. Arizona St., vs. Stanford, @ So. Miss
#9 Tennessee - vs. Alabama, @ South Carolina, vs. Notre Dame
    #10 Georgia - @ Arkansas, @ Florida, @ Auburn, vs. Ga. Tech
#11 Texas - @ Texas Tech, @ Colorado, vs. Okla St., vs. Texas A&M
    #12 Purdue - vs. Michigan, @ Iowa
#13 Michigan - @ Purdue, @ Iowa, vs. Ohio State
#14 Boise St. - non BCS conference, ignore
#15 Virginia - vs. Miami, @ Ga. Tech, @ Va. Tech
#16 Texas A&M - vs. Oklahoma, vs. Texas Tech, @Texas
#17 Louisville - non BCS conference, ignore
#18 Arizona St. - vs. UCLA, @Cal, vs. Stanford
#19 LSU - wins out, no doubt

So here's the deal: Ignoring the 3 non BCS conference teams ahead of us, LSU has to surpass 8 of the remaining 11 teams to be in the top 8 in the BCS rankings (BCS Conference teams only). They have 6 weeks to do it (7 if you count the Conference CGs).

    I bet on LSU.

Chance to move up 4 spots already. Tennessee, Arizona State, and Mich/Purdue loser. Texas later tonight.

    Make that 3. Alabama lost.

Good Info. If Auburn goes to NC, Sugar bowl can pick who they want? Or do they have to take an SEC team?

I guess it still comes down to the BCS Bowls rotating and choosing. If LSU gets picked before it gets back to the Sugar picking, then that's where we would go. I can't see why the defending NC would not be picked for a BCS bowl game should we be in the top 8 (as an at-large).

FSU tied with Wake Forest. This could conceivably be another team LSU passes up this week as well. FSU SHOULD fall like a rock with this horrible loss to #73 ranked Wake Forest in the BCS rankings.
