Hopefully, JR with two years experience under his belt will spread the football more. Timing with the new fleet of receivers which we had last year seem to be a problem but timing should get better. I like to welcome RP to the LSU QB club. JR, MF & RP are the best trio QBs that LSU EVER had.
I'll take JM playing for 2 years winning a national title leaving for the NFL and handing it over to RP. If RP redshirts, he will improve his game sooooooooo much more than the kid knows. Then he will start as a sophomore for sure! I just dont want to see RP start and then see the Ryan P show, he seems very self oriented. Never have I heard him talk about team play. I am still very excited, but I do believe he needs to stand and line and wait his turn.
Far too soon to say that...None of them has ever played an entire game wire to wire...Not one has ever finished an entire season at the controls... The best trio of LSU QB's ever was the royal triumverate of Nall/Booty/Davey ... Say what you like about Booty, but the guy was a legitimate talent when given proper coaching, and he did make some bad gaffes in key situations, but what young kid doesn't? All three of them signed professional contracts, and had it not been collusion on the part of the Cleveland Browns, Booty would probably still be fighting for a shot at a backup position the league somewhere. Nall & Davey both have bright futures as starting quarterbacks in the league. I work with Javon Walker's best friend here in Baton Rouge. Walker is a Pro-Bowl wideout with the Green Bay Packers, and from Lafayette originally. He went to FSU only because DiNardo was the coach at the time he came out of JUCO, and he wasn't touching LSU with a 10 foot pole. Walker has said that Nall is the heir apparent whenever Brett Favre retires. Nall-like Davey-previously tore it up in the NFL Europe. If Booty had ever tried, he probably would have too, and given himself enough chops and a resume long enough to make more of an impact to NFL GM's... It's too soon to tell about this bunch...
The league made a push during his first professional season to purge 3rd string quarterbacks off of active rosters, and to then resign them onto the practice squad... You effectively can terminate contracts of guys like Akili Smith, etc...while still dressing out a player that's on the practice squad, which normally doesn't happen. It served the purpose of effectively reducing NFL team payrolls (QB's-even third stringers, or emergency quarterbacks, as their listed on gameday rosters-are the highest paid position players, both currently and historically), while at the same time allowing them to keep the players at a fraction of their previous cost. Any individual on a practice squad makes a standard sum of $3,000/week. No small change, I agree, but it's still a lousy thing to cancel a guy's contract and manipulate the system for the sake of the bottom line. But, that's what this business is all about...
