AB and JV look HUGE compared to their former selves. They both look slow and I feel like the game is in slow motion when they try to switch directions. Also, they don't seem to run hard with their legs up. I've never seen a guy like AB get tackled by such minute amounts of contact at his feet, he needs running hard keeping those legs in the air! Maybe it was our O-line vs Aub's D but I think there is more a problem with our backs. I think we need to seriously consider giving our new guys some serious playing time because AB (at least for now, I think he still has more potential than JV) and JV aren't getting it done. It looks like a diet and some quickness training would improve them. Also, our O scheme didn't seem too creative. Why is every other play run out of that formation (maybe you call it trips) where we line up 3 guys just outside the TE or tackle near the slot? I also don't understand why those 3 guys go in motion at the same time, thought that was a flag (maybe just in pros?). I'm no OC genius, but it seems to me that we need to spread our receivers out more because when they line up so far in it allows those DBs and LBs asigned to them to get in on the run play. Aub spread us out and then ran the ball (yea, it was Irons but still.)
Ugh...when you are laid up for months on end, recovering from major knee surgery, unable to run or do cardo for quite some time, then YES, you DO tend to retain/gain weight. :dis:
or when you sit at the bar at Bogeys and drink all night, you might gain weight too. These guys chose to overeat and gain weight, don't fool yourself.
Were you with them at Bogeys??? If not, keep quiet. You didn't drink when you were in college?? If so, keep quiet. If we win the game, you don't have a problem with Alley or JV. But because we lose, you're just looking for an avenue to point the finger down. It was a hard loss to take. We didn't execute a few critical plays when we needed to and we had some terrible calls go against us. But dispite all of that, who made you Body by Jake???
The entire offensive backfield is slow, and I think this is something that needs to be addressed. If the O-Line can't open holes, they need someone who can get to the corners.
look hotshot I know more about their injuries, surgeries, recovery than you ever will. So stop being the prick that you always are.
I'll admit that JV hasn't appeared to be in top-notch shape since the '03 season, but as for Alley, it was constantly reported by the coaching staff that his rehab was more difficult...so I'm prepared to give him a mulligan and in his defense, I just feel that it's not right to be unfairly critical of him until he regains his form. The only significant point I can agree with is: "why are we relying on two backs that are still too heavy and recovering"?? Well, that's a good point, and in hindsight, I would have liked to see more of Scott and/or Keland get some carries. But that's 20/20 because if one of our rookie RB's would have fumbled, or blown a blocking assignment, that resulted in a turnover, then who's going to come out and say that they wouldn't be the ones being attacked by the same posters that are pointing fingers at JV and AB??? You going to tell me that those same posters wouldn't be still be putting the blame on whichever running back(s) we had used???
I haven't heard anyone blaming JV or Alley, everyone is blaming the coaches and the O line. I believe that Scott should have gotten a chance if we were so committed to the run.
jesus christ, if you think my original post is somehow a personal attack on JV or AB you're mistaken. I'm saying they're not fit to be in our backfield in their current condition. I understand when you're laid up you'll put on pounds but part of rehab is getting back into football shape, in this case big time D1 football shape. Clearly they are not in the type of shape they need to be in. So what I was suggesting is that we give our new guys some carries because the experience is important and <gasp> they might actually produce as freshman. Something went wrong with JVs conditioning unless the strategy was to turn him into a big lumbering short yardage back, and AB it appears would benefit from slimming down and concentrating on his quickness (eg. keeping his feet high so he doesn't get tripped up by the tips of a few fingers of a diving DB). Is this analysis wrong? I'm not saying it's their personal faults, I don't know them or what they do, but I don't think we're gonna see much of a running game with those two doing the bulk of the ball carrying.
I don't blame this on Miles and I certainly don't think that he was calling a game based on ego. Yes, maybe Miles can't "outcoach" great coaches, but he's not the total screw up you portray him as. We've got good coordinators (Jimbo, has to pick it up a notch) and Miles, in his one real season to recruit, gave us the number 7 recruiting class in the nation while many La highschoolers were still scattered around the country because of K. They'll go back and change the personell and/or X's and O's of the offense after this week and things will get better. ****, or defense is so damn good all it really takes is even a mediocre offensive performance to win almost any game, and I expect we'll be doing things more than just mediocre offensively the rest of the season.
