Of course, they will have to be pretty good to prove more talented than 2003, but I have read comments from national writers stating this is a more talented team. Therefore, is this the most talented LSU football team in the history of LSU football as we look at them before the season?
i think unequivocally this is the deepest and most talented team ever assembled at LSU. too bad that doesn't equate to anything except on paper.
Offensively this is the most talented team that LSU has ever had no question. The only possition somewhat in question is Quarterback but i dont think thats in question. However, on Deffense Saftey is fine. I even think our D-line though under sized is very good but not as good as 2003, LBs and DBs are a question mark. NO way our d-fense is better than 03 but our Offense is going to be incredile. And D not being as good as 2003 doesnt mean they may not be #1 in the country.
In a word yes. I have never in all my years as a tiger faithfull ever seen a team so LOADED. I mean we have 3 qb's who could be starters at ANY Div. 1 school and don't even get me started with the WR's. However this talent comes with a downside.........inexperience. So i have a lot of optimism about this season, but it is guarded optimism for now.
Talent is subjective in the preseason, of course. Time will tell. But few will argue that this isn't the deepest Tiger team ever. We are not used to this kind of talented depth. I really hope Miles makes the most of it, using fresh players in the 2nd half. This year is the peak of Nick's recruiting hauls. The classes now playing were ranked #1, #15 #1, #2 and #22. Miles #22 is misleading since we could only sign 13 players (half of normal). But the players averaged 3.7 stars which put LSU at #4 in terms of quality. We lose a bunch of impact players in the next two springs. This is the year for Miles to exploit the depth, especially with a favorable home schedule.
I respectfully disagree. In fact our QB position is probably the most questionable position overall. Fact is, we do not have a proven consistent quality QB. LSU was rated # 72 overall in team passing yards last year. (averaged 202 yards per game) Tell me where the WR's looked so great last year.(I didn't see it) I think some of you are confusing potential and hype with reality. I agree we have the potential to have a great passing game this year but until I see it I'm going to be cautiously optimistic. I think it's premature to boast about our talented QB's and WR's. I didn't see any Michael Claytons or Josh Reeds last year. Nor did I see a QB as consistent as Matt Mauck. The running game is a different story. (We are very talented and very deep.)
Rep Points for you. Agree with a lot of it. I worry about Russell's consistency next year. I don't doubt he will play some great games but I also think he makes a decent amount of sophmore mistakes.
I have been listening to LSU games on the radio since the '58 championship season, watch everything on TV, and this is the most talented team I remember. Now let me qualify that a bit, its the most talented based on "recruiting rankings" out of high school. A few years into college, some strange things happen, just like in the pros. Remember Ryan Leaf at San Diego, and remember what round Joe Montana was drafted by the 49ers (like 7th round)? Some players never come close to living up to their hype, and some FAR exceed the expectations held for them. I don't believe the press clippings give you any wins. The players have to go out, continue to develop, and they have to earn every win on the field, they don't play them based on the press clippings. So, the fact this is the most talented team does not assure a highly successful season. We need good coaching, hard work by the kids, some on-field leadership, and great chemistry, where each player does not want to let down his teammates. There are a lot of things that can derail the trip. But, I believe one of our QB's will come through, and I look forward to a successful year. If all the pieces fall into place, the sky is the limit.
