I can not believe how bad ESPN is trying to cover their ass on this story. They are still going with the 'we had our facts right' angle. I guess they heard that ppl wanted to make them accountable for pushing a story. But hey CBS did it, CNN did it, and of course ole Olby worked for 'em. I swear, the press in general is a disgrace. For a sports giant like ESPN to go down this road is very disturbing to me.
Honestly who cares? They got some inside info which later turned out to be incorrect. I don't understand what the big deal is. You guys have your coach. Bitching at it's finest.
A U-M fan, first post here, btw congrats on the SEC title. A lot of folks in Ann Arbor are slamming Les Miles, as if he did something to U-M. I have been reading all night that Lloyd Carr gave Desmond Howard the go-ahead to leak story to ESPN, I do not know if there is any truth to that, but Howard is part of the search team to find next coach. If Howard is source of leak, U-M should cut him loose ASAP. My understanding is that CLM DID NOT talk to anyone at U-M or anywhere else, and would not before SECCG. My point is, maybe ESPN used Desmond to try and scoop story, and U-M ended up looking like fools. Good luck in NCG.
I care a great deal. To leak this "inside info" the MORNING OF THE SECCG is unconscionable! Anyone can see this would have a big detrimental affect on the players. If you want to go with the story, wait until the SECCG is over, like 8 hours later, especially if it is NOT VERIFIED info, which in this case, it was not, it was just heresay. No way this should have been leaked nationally a few hours before a big game! That's bush league.
I'm still not 100% certain that Miles stays even though he gave himself very little wiggle room in his comments. I think he is more honest and sincere than Saban but something just doesn't feel right. I don't know....maybe I'm just a pessimist. I would like for him to stay though.
The timing of ESPN's report was yet another distraction. It would have been wrong even if it was true.
It's over. ESPN gave Miles a platform to speak, which they owed him big time & he put to rest any & all questions. He even came out and said: "There is no wiggle room", when pushed further about his decision. He did an excellent job explaining his decision IMO, & did everything but stand up and sing the LSU fight song! Most coaches do not blatantly lie like Saban. Miles deserves to be taken at his word. I imagine Miles will be shopping for a Defensive Coordinator during the next 72 hours & Jon Tenuta is apparently willing to listen. I think this is the story ESPN sniffed out, but got the wrong school. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/ncaa/12/01/tenuta.gatech.ap/index.html
