that there is not only no clear-cut candidate for head coach, but also no concensus as to the type of coach that we are looking for. So what's the good news? Well, the good news is that you can't turn it on a college or NFL game, television or radio, and not hear about Saban going to the Dolphins and the vacant position at LSU. Not only that, but the general media is touting the position as one that is highly covetted. Five years ago, we were in a completely different situation. Five years ago we were losing, there were other positions open, and there were few big-name coaches who thought twice about LSU. We got lucky and found a coach with an incredible skill, or as Skip put it, is "gifted". So now, I think the powers that be have an incredibly difficult decision: go for the next coach that they think has a gift, or go for the coach that is already a big-name coach. Unfortunately, IMO I think the top candidate that fits each of those criteria has already taken on a new job (Urban Meyer and Steve Spurrier). Five years ago, the options were very limited. This year, they seem to be limitless - and that brings me to the bad news. As we all know through our QB situation this past year, when you don't have a clear-cut #1, you could very well be in for a rough ride. Hopefully someone will rise to the top, but it scares me that someone doesn't immediately standout that's a no-brainer the way Meyer and Spurrier were. I just hope that Skip and the rest of the decision makers are able to successfully weed through all the crap that is going to be putting in for this job. There's going to be a lot of fools gold out there. I haven't really decided which direction I want us to go (not that my opinion matters), but I do think that given the unbelievably good position a coach will be walking into, there will be a some suprise candidates that pop up in this search.
