Before I start this thread I want to say this is not a knock on Hester or anything hes done. I think hester is a very solid player and I applaud Miles for trying to find innovative ways to use him. That being said, jacob hester is not a TAILBACK, he is a FULLBACK. And he does not possess the type of breakaway speed in the open field that Alley Broussard, Charles Scott, or even JV has (although I havent seen much breakaway speed from vincent since 2003). SO my point is, why are we running more plays in the open field to Hester than to our faster playmaker backs or people like trindon holliday? This is my plea to use our superior speed instead of trying to play big ten slow power football. We have superior speed and when we put in hester we are giving that advantage away. A snap here or there for hester at tailback is fine, but hes not better than alley broussard in short yardage so I really wish we could use our strengths. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like Hester is going to be ineffective against speedy SEC defenses. I guess we'll find out next week against auburn. I just hope using our fullback as the feature back doesn't cause us to lose a game we can win.:geauxtige
he definitely didn't look slow in that touchdown run. he's really about just as fast as jv, with a little bit quicker acceleration.
I agree....I think Hester is a very important ingredient to this offense. He's all over the field, and we get him the ball in many different ways. With JV, Hester, Broussard, and Scott all running the ball well, we can keep fresh legs in at all times.
He has looked very good in the situations that he has played in. Have to many good players is a problem I like having. Sure beats the 90's!!!!
I dont understand how we lose a good lead blocker when hes in at FB..hes a very competent lead blocker. And I'm not opposed to using him some at TB, but you cannot seriously think that hes better than alley broussard as a feature back? My problem with the use of hester is that he is getting so many more touches than anybody else, we should be spreading it around more to our fast backs and receivers. Thats all im saying. We have a wealth of talent and to put the majority of the load on hester when we have other people as competent or more dangerous in the open field is criminal.
AB is still working himself back into shape. JV hasn't looked great, Scott and Williams are still young. Hester is taking up the slack untill AB is ready to roll full blast.
Hester had 8 carries, the same number as JV & AB. He had 6 receptions. Most of those catches were not a result of him being the primary receiver.
This thread does make a lot of sense, I mean it's just like I used to gripe about the 72 Dolphins, they should have never given the ball to Larry Csonka so much. The guy was slow, Kick and Morris could run circles around him and Warfield was way underutilized. Shula should have been fired in the middle of the season for being so stupid. Just because they went undefeated meant squat!!!!
