Given the cover picture it is amazing that it turned out to be a fairly negative article about Russell. Since the general theme was pedigree vs potential, I think this guy showed clearly what side of the fence he came down on. He may have been a bit more subtle about it, but this was clearly and anti-Russell/pro-Quinn article. I will be glad when this stupid draft is over.

 

Pedigree means nada in the NFL. Just look at Eli Manning. There is no single correlation for QB success from college to the pros.

 

Just a note - by "pedigree" that writer was referring to the number of starts a QB made in college. (Eli fits in either definition but if someone responds here without reading the article, they won't understand the context it was used in.) While I'm sure there is a correlation there - it's not brain surgery to figure out that talented QBs with NFL potential are likely to start most of their games in college - he also cherry picked his data a little. How many college starts did Tom Brady have?

I was referring to coaching pedigree. Eli should have learned by osmosis from his father and Peyton about being a successful QB but he hasn't been one thus far.

 

Im really surprised to see people mention Eli as a bust everywhere I go, while he hasnt been a top QB in the NFL, he has been an average one. Yes Eli was a top college QB, but his whinny spoiled child attitude (look Quinn) has been one of the reasons he hasnt developed into anything more than AVERAGE, while Peyton, IS the top QB in the pros right now mainly because of his attitude and competitiveness.
About the article, I was surprised too. I thought it would be something positive, but the writer is clearly a Quinn fan. What does the number of starts have to do with talent?

Well the fact that he's the QB of the NY Giants puts a lot of scrunity on him AND that he was a #1 pick. His inconsistency is the sole reason the Giants haven't made it past the 1st round of the playoffs, he tries to make plays that aren't there.
But i do agree that attitude and competitiveness will put you at the top as opposed to whining, cough brady cough.
How much you started obviously doesn't factor much into the NFL, its all about how the individual makes the adjustments and preperations to allow for success

 

What a stupid article. He keeps talking about how JR is benefitting from VY last year. The reason that there were so many questions regarding VY was because of his throwing motion and simple college system. Last time I checked, JR is the complete opposite of VY in terms of mechanics and has run a college system under an OC who is widely believed to be one of the top QB developers. The only similarity between VY and JR that I can see is their "it" factor. For me, the Tenn. game this year is a perfect example, JR had a far from stellar game but when it mattered he went on that 8 minute drive(if memory serves) and delievered on a fourth down with the game on the line. He also delivered in the crazy crazy ASU game, Alabama game, Tenn game, OM game, Ark game. Brady Quinn delivered against Michigan State.

 

Was the TD on 3rd or 4th down? If on 4th, he converted on two of those in that game.
