WAFB has or had a video clip online showing footage of the camp. I didn't know it was that big---over 1,100 attendees. Anyway, interesting note that 1,100 high school, college and even NFL players were brave enough to come to camp, from near and far...yet *widdle Vincy Young* was too scared to make the 5 hour drive from Houston because of the *big, mean Hur-i-cane* that came through the other day. Guess Vince thinks his game doesn't need any work. Also, JaMarcus sounded very confident. Methinks he's going to respond to all this RP talk by having a Drew Brees-like major step-up season. Works for me. :crystal:
Jamarcus mentioned that he knows the playbook backwards & forwards. Him attending this camp shows that he wants to be the go-to guy next year & is putting in the hard work to get there. Jamarcus will be a great QB. I'm a little dissapointed none of our other guys made it there (Flynn or Perrilloux).
I always wondered what you could teach guys once they get to this level... you have things that are just physical: power, speed, agility, etc... then there's things you learn... reading defenses, playbooks, and audibles.. but these are almost always different for every system you're in... I mean there's some things like: footwork, throwing mechanics, and pocket presence that I guess you could learn, but im hoping if you're starting in the SEC you know that kinda stuff already..... Im kinda skeptical of guys going to these camps when they could be using the time with the coaching staff watching film or discussing audibles... anyone else agree? also, what do you think they "learn" in these camps?
Yeah well you must not pay too much attention to college football because I can't tell you how many guys have terrible footwork, throwing mechanics, and pocket presence. In fact, almost all NFL Draft scouts mention that nearly every prospect has to improve those things big time after being drafted. I wish all our guys would go to the camp every year. They have no excuse not to, it's right down the road.
Anytime you have a chance to learn 1st hand from maybe the best QB the game has ever seen, you should go... Whether it's a 6 year old kid or a 22 year old kid... Who is JaMarcus to say that he 'don't need the work?' Besides... you can't "spend time with the staff" right now... Practices didn't start yet.
Didn't RP go last year? It seems I remember somebody commenting that the camp rated him very high and he was excellent at reading defenses.
I know RP went to Saban's camp last year, cause I was there and he threw me a pass :thumb: (which I caught BTW). I'm not sure if he went to the Manning camp or not though.
I understand that they can always improve on things like that, but at the same time, what can you learn in a three day camp? (not sure if it's three days but I cant see it being any longer)
