Kudos to Chris Jackson. He had a very nice game tonight...missed FG's aside. That kid has a lot on his shoulders with XP, FG, KO and punting. It really seems like they're improving week to week. :thumb:
Chris Jackson has been a real gamer this year - hats off to this kid for stepping up and taking on punting duties along with his kicking responsibilities - he absolutely nailed that 47 yard FG and he should be given some serious props...
I've been supporting CJ as well this season, he has taken on a lot of duties. I know we still need to go out and get kickers, but CJ has a few years left and could turn out to be a great kicker. If he could just be as solid from inside 40 yards as he is from outside 40 yards . . . we would be alright.
No doubt that CJ is definitely a great asset to our ST's. It is too bad we wasted a schollie on Fisher since thus far he isn't able to contribute to our team and relieve CJ. I hope he pans out sometime soon. I'm just not sure you can coach consistency. It's just mental I think. I do wish Skyler Green would try to return those deep punts. They did seem returnable, but I guess that deep you have to hope it goes into the endzone. One of the biggest diferences between this year and last year is how our ST's have went from an asset to a liability. I do think it will get better but it would of been nice if we had it for the tough part of the schedule.
I'm not sure if LSU uses the old standard rule of the punt returner planting his feet on the 10 and not touching it if it goes over his head, that would explain why Green didn't try to return those punts. You know, the ball was just dropping right for FL that night. However, that FL punter did shank a kick like 18 yards in a pressure situation. So you take the good with the bad, no kick is automatic on any level of football.
It bothered me that the announcers kept saying that Skylar should be returning those, etc. - in college ball coaches have policies and it may be CNS's policy not to field a punt within the 10 yard line...
Chris Jackson had a solid game both punting and kicking FGs. He missed a 48 yarder but he had the distance and it was into some wind, he just pushed it slightly to the right. He nailed the 47 yarder and looked good punting with good hangtime.
