Here are just a few of the quotes from writer Bill Plaschke (mailto:[email protected]): "This is not written as a homer — my USC jeering section knows better — but as a witness." "Some folks will claim today that one-loss LSU, based on its overwhelming win over Georgia on Saturday, should pass the Trojans in the polls and play Oklahoma for the title. To that, one could offer three arguments. Western Illinois. Louisiana Monroe. Louisiana Tech. All fine institutions, certainly, and apparently LSU scheduled a couple of them only after late cancellations by other teams. But two victories over Georgia and a win over Ole Miss notwithstanding, they should not be allowed to march toward a championship on three such doormats. USC has been better, later, than anyone in the country, period." Think of it another way: If the No. 2 team in the country wins its final regular-season game by two dozen points and does not play for the national title, something is terribly wrong. "The BCS teaches us that it's all about reputation, not reality. How else to explain how LSU beats three lightweight programs -- Louisiana-Monroe, Western Illinois and Louisiana Tech -- but passes USC in strength of schedule because the SEC is considered that much tougher than the Pac-10. Who decides these things? A couple of guys in a rib joint in Tuscaloosa? The SEC may indeed be a better conference, but it's not the NFL, and wouldn't only the NFL be strong enough to outweigh those three easy wins. "I've seen LSU, and all I can say is, those guys are not USC," said Mike Williams. "Let's just say, that team has played in some sorority pillow fights.""
there they go again with their "rib joint in Tuscaloosa" comments. I swear...what a bunch of eccentric snobby want-to-be's
damn I wish we could play them...they ought to be thanking their lucky stars that they aren't playing us so that they can at least have a chance to win their so-called AP championship.
When the #3 team in the nation beats the #5 team in the nation by 21 points in a conference championship game and the #1 team loses by 28 to the #13 team in the nation in their conference championship game, and that #3 team doesn't play for the national championship, something is wrong. Their beef should be with Oklahoma. Not LSU. We won what we had to win, we knew the rules coming and, and we did what we had to do. They can still win their share of the national championship, and to that I can't argue, they deserve it. Just don't short change Louisiana State University, and what our boys have earned. If they like it or not, the SOS quotient was NOT "cooked up" by the SEC. It's completely neutral. Is it credible? I don't kow. What I do know is that it's fair, and our boys deserve their lot. Their gripe isn't with us, so perhaps they should shut up.
My response to this tool: Your all of a sudden infallable human poll has LSU RIGHT on USC's ass. LSU is either 1 or 2 in every computer poll, and number 2 in both human polls. So now that must mean that ALL 9 POLLS got it wrong. WOW - you know more than 9 polls! Well we should just drop the whole BCS and let Bill Plaschke take over!! Oh, and I am sure everyone is banking on USC staying number one IF they beat Michigan. You better keep lobbying and come up with some better arguments, cause 15 points in the AP poll hardly gives you any breathing room. Oh, but your not a homer. By the way - if there are so many people upset USC will not be in the Sugar bowl, why is it they cannot sell out their last home game during their "championship" run. PATHETIC!
Its funny that they are now acting like they had some super tough schedule with great wins over top teams. So they beat Washington State and.....and......and..............
Good thing that its a couple of guys in a rib joint in Tuscaloosa than a couple of "guys" in a gay bar in LA.
I'm sick of this argument. Here is how I refute Plascke. While LSU's SOS is worse than USC's at the bottom end, it's much better at the top end. Here is what I mean by that. Let's look at each team's four worst opponents: USC- Arizona (2-10) BYU (4-8) Stanford (4-7) Arizona St. (5-7) LSU- ULM (1-11) Western Illinois (1-AA) Miss. State (2-10) Arizona (2-10) No question about it, we played some pretty sorry teams, much worse than they did. But, let's look at the top end. How many currently ranked schools did each team beat? USC- 1 (Washington State) LSU- 2 (Georgia twice and Ole Miss) Let's look at each school's loss USC- lost to Cal, at Cal, 31-28 on a field goal in 3OTs. Cal went on to finish 7-6. LSU- lost to Florida 19-7 at home. Florida went on to finish 8-4 and defeat not one, but THREE Top Ten teams and tie for the SEC East crown. The top is more important than the bottom.
