6 receptions for 101 yds and 1 TD catch.....and then my alarm clock went off. I hope this kid explodes soon. Boy do we need a 2nd receiver. Lafell "looks" like a stud. 6 foot 3, 205 as he has hit the weight room hard..just ask the kid from MSU. 4.4 speed. Its all there. I only noticed Flynn throwing to him one time and that was a bit of a broken play where Flynn had to scramble to buy time. Yeah, Perilloux tossed him a TD late in the game, but I wonder why Flynn didnt throw to him more. Perhaps his route running is not there yet?
Well, Early was the primary receiver for this first game. MSU could not cover him. If the primary receiver is open, you throw it to him. Don't blame Flynn. I think that in the future, the play calling will include other guys as the main route for a particular play. If they get open, they will get the ball.
Plus the opposition already has a lot of video on Doucet. The have very little on LaFell and nothing on the youngsters. Defensive Coordinators still have to plan for guys who haven't had their strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies broken down yet.
I expect Tolliver to turn into a very good WR. The little we saw against MSU I think shows good potential. He had a good first move and was quick accelerating. I'm thinking by the end of the year Doucet, Lafell, and Tolliver will be very successful.
I think Chris Mitchell will have about 4 catches, and they will all be big 3rd down catches. There is no way they don't double team Doucet, so everyone else should have single coverage.
