    agrees to 5 year deal

is the USC infrastructure crumbling as we speak?

was it lsutiga that intimated doom and gloom for the USC program and that something big was about to break?

Is the the tip of the iceberg?

PS - Joe McKnight is officially ours. Upheaval at USC. Not a good thing. Time to celebrate.

I doubt it'll really affect them. Sarkisian turned down that job originally (Bizarre I know) so he'll probably just be promoted to OC. That's a juggernaut that they have going right now. In terms of recruiting, it was seamless after Norm Chow left.

Rome made fun of the Raiders and Al Davis today for getting dissed by assistant coaches at the college level.

I hate to say this, but this move is probably best for USC. Carrolls forced out Chow to make room for Kiffen, his mentor's son, who had no previous OC experience and Kiffen was still learning on the job. SC bascially got shut of the NCs this year when it lost to UCLA because of Kiffen. The guy really screwed it up, and wouldn't make necessary adjustments. Instead, he kept insisting on running the same plays and formations even though they hadn't been working against UCLA. There were questions if Carrolls would ever force out and fire his mentor's son. If you check the SC boards, they're probably rejoicing about this move right now.

So basically you're telling me this guy is no better than the bed and breakfast buffoon that Art Shell insisted on? But even worse, he's the head coach, not just an OC.

Kiffen is only 31 years old. Obviously Al Davis is going with the current trend of young coaches.

In a related story, the Raiders are reportedly talking to a local girl scout to become defensive coordinator. Supposedly the sticking point is whether they will pay her with Peanut Butter or the ever famous Thin Mints cookies.

Not to go OT, but how did you get positive rep? You obviously cleaned up your act- nice to see it. :)

In other news, JaMarcus Russell becomes offensive coordinator/starting QB for the Raiders next season and leads them to the Super Bowl- where they lose to the Saints.

It's hard enough for a great college HC like a Saban or Carroll to make the jump to the NFL. But, we're ultimately talking about a guy with no HC experience at all who's expected to all of a sudden be a HC when he had enough trobules being an OC and was still learning as an OC. Sure, at some point, nobody has HC experience and some team has to hire him first. But, somebody like Sean Payton had years of NFL experience before he was hired by the Saints. With Kiffen, he's going to learn how to be a HC while also suddenly adjusting to the NFL.

Before this hiring, I thought the Raiders had some potential. Very good defense, and all they needed was a decent offense to manage the game and score a few points. But, now, I think whoever gets picked as the first pick will get sucked into a black hole and never be heard from again. When did Al Davis become so senile? At one point, he was one of the smartest men in the NFL.
