OL Kyle Anderson was arrested for 2nd degree battery Sunday night stemming from a fight in Tigerland which resulted in the victim being hospitalized. He was suspended from the team by Les Miles. Anderson was a 6-6, 260 redshirt sophomore recently moved to offensive tackle where he was expected to compete to be Ciron Black's backup. This was reported in The Advocate this morning, but I couldn't find it on their website.
No terms published yet that I'm aware of. Les must wait until the facts come out to see if he will be prosecuted or the charges dismissed. Possibly a 1 to 3 game suspension. It seems like a common bar fight. I'm not even sure what 2nd degree battery is, but it doesn't sound like a Class A felony.
I got an email from a jealous bama fan about this yesterday but decided not to post it because the link he provided (some jail inmate list) was not valid. I thought it was BS but now I see its not. Thats 3 Tigers arrested in the last 10 days. Not what we want to see.
The guy probably bumped into him and ALMOST spilled his beer. That would be 2nd degree. If he would have actually caused him to spill his beer now THAT'S a first degree and definitely is a felony. Don't mess with a southern man's beer. You can take his wife/girlfriend but don't mess with his dawg or his beer. :thumb:
I think Les needs to send a strong message here. This team has been pretty good at staying out of trouble the last few years and we don't want that to start slipping. Players need to understand that getting into bar fights is not acceptable no matter what and punishment will not be a slap on the wrist. I know some will say getting into fights is something that college kids do and it's not a big deal. I agree with that for the most part but when you are a member of the football team, representing the University in the public eye, then you simplify cannot engage in that behavior. I know it's a double standard but there are many positive double standards that come with playing for the Tigers. I do not think it is unreasonable to hold student athletes to a hirer standard in regards to staying out of trouble. It's all part of the deal.
From what I heard it was a couple other guys that really beat the hell out of the kid. Anderson was involved, but he wasn't the one that hospitalized him.
Players have to be careful who they hang around with, too. When you have a full-ride scholarship paid for by Louisiana citizens and Tiger Fans, you can't let yourself be drawn into petty squabbles.
