Man this would be HUGE. I've pulled many a red rice plants. Up to now, that's the only way to remove it- mechanically. We used to get an extra dollar (or maybe two- can't remember) per barrel of rice for having our fields pass inspection. They had to have less than 4 plants per acre, I think it was.
