I was reading this morning that the current bldg. was built 50 years ago to accommodate a 150 member band......today's includes 325. This one would also include a chamber recital hall for organ and small ensembles. Projected site is along Dalrymple Dr. between the Greek Theatre and Pentagon Dorms. Not cheap- $5 million from State and looking to receive 5-15 million in private donations. I know we have some former (Maybe present too) band members here and EVERYONE loves our band- hope it goes through, they certainly deserve State of the art facilities too. :thumb:
I agree. I think "The Golden Band From Tigerland " is just as important to what makes LSU great as sports and academics. It is all part of the experience and magic that is LSU. They deserve it.
Hard to watch/listen to these guys and not jones for the fall.
Well that is good to hear. I remember the School of Music talking about just an Organ Building and that the new Band Hall was 2nd on the list. I was a little confused at who exactly is the number one recruitment tool for LSU. The band or the School of Music's organ majors. I am glad they came to a compromise. The band hall is old and they can barely fit everyone in it, much less try to hold rehersal in there with everyone when the weather doesn't permit for them to be outside.
It has nothing to do with the SoM, the 15 mil will be from private donations from either the TAF or others wanting to help the band.
Where did you read this? Link? I see Miss. St. is currently building a new Band Hall. Tigerband is long overdue for a bigger hall.
