Still looking solid, not the alleged fraud Corso proclaimed it to be: TEAM RANKINGS Rushing Defense 6 Pass Efficiency Defense 3 Total Defense 2 Scoring Defense 6 Pass Defense 4 http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/2007/Internet/ranking_summary/2007000000365.HTML
Stats can be deceiving. Maybe we thought a bit too much of our defense for putting up staggering numbers against poor offenses early in the season. We're good, but all that talk about being a great defense may have been premature. We'll see how we finish. Total Offense Rank, out of 119 teams MSU - 113 VT - 112 MTSU - 92 USC - 93 Tulane - 74 Florida - 23 UK - 14 Auburn - 99
Exactly. What have you done for me lately? And let's not disregard how much the overall stats are skewed by the early numbers.
The defense has been hurt by injuries (Charles Alexander) and to some degree hung out to dry by a offense that has not been able to control to clock and put points on the board...all that changed in the second half when Mr. Doucet returned to form.
And yet no one can argue we have played the most demanding schedule of any other school thus far. Ironic.
With the exception of Florida we have won the time of possession in all our SEC games. I had to check because I was thinking along the same lines as you.
Losing Alexander may have hurt, but TOP has nothing to do with it. We lead the SEC in TOP and are 14th in the NCAA.
Not trying to be argumentative, but he was talking about LSU's red zone defense. That's not a statistic listed here in the original post. http://secsports.com/new/sports/fbc/07stats/confldrs.htm Ctrl + F red zone defense.
This is an enigma. Notice how much fewer times teams have been in the redzone against us. Quite remarkable. But to allow them to score all 19 times and a great majority (14) of them as TDs is baffling. This was our strength in years past (holding teams to FGs, causing turnovers, sacking QBs to take them out of FG range or miss a long FG). This has not happened even once this season. I dunno. So basically teams are going 3 and out or driving 60-80 yards for a TD. Although, to be honest, its happened only 14 times.
