Tenn offense scores 17 vs UAB and 7 vs Florida. I say anything over 21 against us is a disappointment and 28 or more and it is time to worry. Even if we do get the W, we cannot let this team move at will offensively and have our ranking justified.
Dude, if we beat Tennessee, even if it's 42 - 41, our ranking will be justified. That was a pretty tough Florida D in the Swamp. Tennessee still gets the BOD.How about teams not scoring too much against a Tenn this year and then the Tigers hanging that many - namely the number needed to get the W. The #3 ranking would be deserved. Then, we'd have two straight road game character checks in games the Tigers will be favored. Then, we possibly have a huge showdown with Florida! But, I am really just thinking about September 24 right now!!! :geauxtige
If our D holds UT to 10 or below...what the hell would some fans do about their Anti-Pelini feelings?
I for one am skeptical of the DC based on his first game. He showed an inability to make necessary adjustments. That is his responsibility. No other coach will take the reigns. He basically pissed me off by taking an athletic team like LSU and handcuffing them with infrequent blitzes and soft zone coverage. That's what you do to compensate when you are overmatched! A wise man once said "I want everyone to hate playing our team. We are going to be so physical, dominant, relentless in our effort, and the way we go about competing in the game that the other teams will hate playing us." I miss that guy. All that said - I really want to be proud of LSU's Defense, no matter who the DC may be. I look for the positive and I respect strategic integrity; however, making adjustments are part of winning football games. Take away the opponents strength! i.e. Stuff Tennessee's running game, disturb the timing routes, treat the QB harshly. Do this to give us the best chance to win. Don't even try, even after the third TD?, and I blame the DC.
UT has always relied on their running game to get going and no matter how much talent they have at WR this year, in the 2 games they've played thus far, it's obvious that they just aren't consistant enough at the QB position to be able to get them the ball. Their defense, however, looks pretty sound. Except for a couple of break-downs--most notibly on the revearse to Caldwell that went fo a TD, they did, IMO, play pretty well vs Meyer's spread option offense.
Many pro and anti Pellini fans would feel much better. Thank God Tennessee's passing game looks totally inept and Phat Phil won't let either get comfortable as the starter. I wouldn't underestimate Tennessee based solely on last nights performance, they still are a very strong team. LSU WILL have to play better than they did against ASU to win but at least the Vols look vulnerable. After watching the game last night I think LSU's much improved special teams could play a major role again.
Ok...but what if, heaven forbid, our offense turns the ball over twice in our own territory and UT has two possessions with a short field??? You've got to see how the game is played out before saying you'll be upset if we give up 28 to the Vols.
