Anyone know if LSU was invited to play in the CBI (College Basketball Invitational)? It's a crappy tournament that wouldn't be worth winning but I was wondering if we at least had the honor of turning them down
The "field" is already set, no SEC teams. Code: Tuesday, March 18 Richmond at Virginia - 7 p.m. Rider at Old Dominion - 7 p.m. Brown at Ohio - 7 p.m. Houston at Nevada - 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 Cincinnati at Bradley - 7 p.m. Miami (Ohio) at Tulsa - 8 p.m. Valparaiso at Washington - 9 p.m. Utah at UTEP - 9 p.m. I read somewhere that each school had to pay something like $60,000 to play in the tournament and all the sites are on the higher seed's court.
This is one of the funniest threads I have ever read! So, you have to pay to play in this tournament and all of the schools above did just that!
A good friend of mine works in the Sports Information Dept. at Virginia. I spoke with him about this tourney and he said that in their game they had a little over 4000 attend in an arena that seats over 14K. They charged 15 bucks a ticket, but still didn't break even on the deal. I've seen the notion thrown out there that it would be a good thing to give the players more practice, IE: bowl games. But, at the most, they got 3 more days of practice. I'll be shocked if this tourney exists in a few more years.
