Now that Russell has left, and Flynn has only one year of elegibility left, we're in deep trouble. We need to recruit a top QB next year, that's a must. At least a top 3 QB, and I prefer it would be a pure passer type of guy, since Perrilloux is more of a double threat QB, and there is a possibility he may not live up to the hype since he isnt battle tested yet. And we also need another average QB to be a 4th string QB. Which leaves us with Perrilloux/Top QB/Lee/Average guy/the walk-ons. Not necessarily in this order.
I am not too worried about the quality we have with Lee. He has a chance to be something special, IMO. I do agree that we need 2 QBs in tis class. He has a quick release, so he doesnt need a whole lot of time in the pocket but he has the wheels to get downfield when in trouble. We will see how he develops but I think he can fill the Top QB spot we need. http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recr...ayer?recruitId=36953&univLogin02=stateChanged
Jarret Lee....he is the future right now...but no this year is very importent when it comes to recruiting qbs, we need to at least bring in 1 in the next class
Hansoni Alfred, Ville Platte High- #77 on Dandy Don's list. He's gotten offers from UL and NW. He's no MF or RP but he'd be a heckuva one to have as a "Spare". One of the classiest kids I've come across in 19 years, good grades, very well mannered. The "Team" player type that would fit that role well too. Teachers thought so much of him we've done fundraisers the past two years to send him to LSU's camp and this summer he'll attend the Manning Academy. Being raised by his mother. If he gets noticed (His numbers are good but this year he had a wr with 4.3 speed AND BUTTERFINGERS). Seiouus, guy dropped PASS AFTER PASS ALL SEASON. Couldn't catch a ball down field and the coach NEVER made changes in the same plays he's been running to 20 yrs.- Can you say........JAILBREAK SCREEN. :hihi: Anyway, this kid ONLY wants to play for LSU......in fact I had to pull him in my office and kinda prepare him for different scenarios. Just in case. but I'm being told he's good enough to easily start at Southern as a Freshman if he would go there. Runs a 4.6 btw- can pull it down and run but more of a scrambler. Moves well laterally and can zip it down the field quite handily. Also on our basketball team who went to top 28 last two years with ALL 5 starters returning next year.
Like Crist?? I know....we can't have 'em all. The kid I was speaking of is not on that level, jus saying as a "Reserve".
JaMarcus was a 4 star, I think he was the 3rd highest pro-style QB. Flynn was in the teens somewhere. With Lee from last class, we'll be fine at the QB position as long as we get one good QB this year. It doesn't have to be a top 3 type guy. J. Lee wasn't, but I'm very high on him and think he'll do well here. We're still high on E.J. Manuel for this year, who is a top 5 QB.
Having two Parade All-Americans at the same time is something that any school is unlikely to achieve very often. Top talent is generally not content with riding the bench, so I think it is unrealistic to expect Les to haul in a top QB any more often than 3 or 4 years. But we do need a sufficient quantity of arms to provide for practice, injuries and attrition. Quite often we can get an unheralded quarterback who works out very well, like Matt Mauck, Rohan Davey, or David Woodley. It wouldn't hurt for LSU to sign the state's best QB every year.
Plenty of years it would... Last year, there was no reason to sign La's best QB. We only needed one QB, and we got a great one in Lee from Texas. If we signed a QB every year, even if some of them are marginal, our depth chart is going to scare away some top prospects & it will be harder & harder to get a top QB here.
Why I said we need one more star QB is because Lee isnt considered a top QB, but from what I've seen, he has a pretty good style and is very talented, I dont know why he wasnt ranked high. The other reason is Perrilloux, considered a top QB, hasnt shown what he's got yet. So to be on the safe side, we must always have two star QBs, just like we had Russell and Flynn battling for the position the past years. And that kid tiga is talking about would be a good fit as a 3rd string guy on our QB depth chart. Not to mention RP will be a junior in 08, and not to also mention if he had a great year he'll go pro. So considering those situations, we need two QBs next year, like Coach Les already stated.
