19-3 in SEC play with Alabama knocking on the door at 18-4. In the East, Tennessee is sitting at 20-2 with "The Gatas" at 10-10........I thought the gators owned the SEC?? :hihi: LSU pitcher, Emily Turner throws a no-hitter in the second game; by contrast, LSU had 15 hits. Contrary to what many believe, hits in softball aren't Mickey Mouse. Pretty interesting fact:
Those that haven't, or don't, followed the SEC softball season are missing out on a lot of good play. I'm curious to see how the regionals and super regionals fall into place this year. Realistically, we can send 2 SEC teams to the CSWS. If you haven't noticed, the loses by LSU and Bama have all come against top 25 teams.
big game this weekend for LSU softball. good chance again for another SEC national title. I can't wait until baseball catches up with softball
Definitely a big weekend. Tennessee is standing in our way.......again. Two wins in this series would be HUGE. We may be bringing our girls to watch Sat. The games are at 3 & 5. Sunday's game is at 1:00. Tennessee just swept Auburn and stretched its winning streak to 23 games and its conference streak to 15 straight. There's the pitching/hitting thing again that I referenced earlier about misconceptions in softball. The first game Saturday is supposed to be on ESPN 2.
It's not just the Vols in your way kitty kitty. :hihi: The Sooners and bama will be there too and you just can't count the Zona schools out. I hear those Wildcats can get pretty competitive. :yelwink2: But I can't talk much here...........SC has no softball team. At least the showers are empty.
While we're talking about pitchers, I got to meet Texas pitcher, Meagan Denny, last year in Round Rock for our Fastpitch National Tourn. She's been called, "Softball's future". Everyone was running to get her auto but I couldn't think of putting a Texas pitchers' autograph in the same case with my signed picture of Emily Turner and me. :hihi: Pretty funny story how she began pitching.... Another big misconception in softball (And baseball) about outfielders......I always stress importance of strong outfielders and, if I'm the head coach, work with them while one of my assistants works with infield so they believe it.
Who's Emily Turner again???? BTW it was a Cali girl, Shannon Doepking- from Acton, Ca.- who crushed one to deep left for a grand slam during the sixth inning for Tennessee yesterday. What do y'all feed them over there??
Winning always helps, but the biggest change I saw was due to a new stadium being built for the Bama squad. Not to mention, their games are usually scheduled about the same time as baseball, they are competing with the gymnastics squad on one of their game nights. Softball fans tend to be unique...the ones that follow the program, follow it very, very closely.
When I called High School games, I'd seldom take baseball games (Unless my boss was REALLY in a jam) I prefered softball games cause they're quicker- not necessarily from start to finish but even between pitches.....no stretch, no leads (Runner can leave base when ball leave pitcher's hand), and the girls are much prettier to look at anyway. :hihi: Terry, Bama's team is right up there too....you're being quiet about it but they're in the thick of things too. :thumb:
