My sentiments, exactly. OH BOY, a Sun Belt conference team.....what a joke indeed. A home stadium capacity of 30,000 and a real power-house of a team. Here’s what they’ve done the last three years: :dis: ’04........7-5 ’05........2-9 (Even UL and Louisiana-Monroe beat them) ’06........3-9
It is hard enough to make double-digit wins in the SEC without loading up on OOC contenders. Cupcakes have their place in the schedule. If we were opening with three cupcakes this season, our new QB and new offense would have a few games to get untracked and to gel before hitting the SEC slate. VT in October would be better than VT in game 2.
I understand your point red but there's some middle ground there and, doesn't have to be SO much disparity between the programs. I know UAB.... and I know most schedules are made way in advance and it may not have been possible to get a "Middle of the road" program but based on our "SEC thinking" about schedules, and some of the comments Miles made, I doubt it was pursued. Doesn't have to be a CONtender, at least a PREtender.
EXACTLY! North freakin Texas! Christ, whoever does this is asleep at the wheel. Why not a UNC, Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers, Okla State... We'll still win those and at least it will look semi-good and test our team better. Our schedule sucks next year. The only saving grace is that Georgia rotates back in 2008, and that aint something our AD did. People often say that there really isn't a difference playing 40th ranked team or the 100th ranked team. Either way, you're almost guaranteed a win. At least it looks better and is more fun to be the #40 than the #100! What about TCU, Hawaii, or Boise? They're all "respected" to some degree in the media and we could steam roll them. I guess Skip wants us winning by 50 points instead of 30 :cuss: .
Look, even the big boys need to protect themselves. No, it's not a good home game, but in even numbered years, LSU has a VERY TOUGH road schedule with visits to Florida, Auburn and Arkansas all in the same season. I don't fault anyone for the UNT game. Granted, I think we'd be better served if we scheduled Southern Miss or some other team from a smaller conference other than the SBC. But don't underestimate the importance of working that Dallas market for recruits. THe more LSU's name is in the Dallas area papers--even if it's because we play North Texas--is still a good tool for advertisement.
i must have misread because i read it as instead of troy state. but either way, i do wish there would be some middle ground on the cupcakes. that isn't going to do anything for our sos.
