BATON ROUGE -- LSU's game against Tennessee on Monday in Tiger Stadium went down as the most watched college football game in the history of ESPN2, the network announced on Tuesday. The LSU-Tennessee football game averaged a 3.1 rating and a 2,768,000 household impressions, making it the making it the network's highest-rated and most-viewed college football game in its 12-year history. In addition, the telecast ranks as ESPN2's second highest-rated and second most-viewed program ever, behind a 3.6 rating and 3,069,000 household impressions for the Oakland at Boston Major League Baseball divisional playoff game on Oct. 4, 2003. Prior to Monday night, ESPN2's highest-rated and most-viewed college football game averaged a 2.5 rating and 2,198,000 household impressions, set earlier this year when North Carolina State hosted Virginia Tech on Sunday, Sept. 4.
Probably not. MNF games average in the 6-10 range. I think that with the blowout game on, the ratings of MNF would be in the lower side of that range, but even with the dropoff it would probably beat 3.1 overall. A 3.1 is usually good for a top 10 spot in most watched shows on Monday night...probably better than 10th.
I got the ratings for MNF. Denver/KC drew an 8.4 rating (approx. 9,240,000viewers) ...much much lower than it's average of 11+ the first couple of weeks.
This game though has caught the attention of some network execs. Even though ESPN gets MNF next season, CBS or ABC just may want to have a few Top Ten college games on Monday next season. Alot of things have to come into play though. It's an awfully short week for a college team unless they have a cupcake or open date the next Saturday. But believe me, it's being looked into. Monday Night College Football would be great.

Re: UT-LSU Game ESPN2's Most Viewed College Ftball Telecast What are we up to... 30 bowl games?... what is there... 119 DI teams now?... half the teams go to bowls... what an achievement. Now, with the Monday night numbers, you can bet MNF, college-style, is right around the corner... soon we'll have game every night... wait a minute... that's happening this week! Hmmm... Year 'round football... that's the ticket!
