First of all my dreamgame for LSU is to play Michigan we were pretty close this year to metting them in the capital one bowl but Wisconsin lost forcing us to play Iowa. With les Mile's tie to Michigan is there a possibilty of us playing? LSU has an open date in 2005 Michigan has one in 2006. Could Miles work out a possible switch with either us bumping up a game from 06 to 05 or Michigan bumping an opponent down to 05 and putting us in?
Possibly. We played ND in the last home and home in part due to DiNardo. Don't know about 06. LSU has teams like Florida, Tenn and Auburn on the road already that year, plus you have to start that home and home against Oklahoma sooner or later.
Only time I want to meet Michigan is in a bowl game. Until there is a playoff, scheduling tough, competitive, and exciting games is counter productive to making a run at the title. Yes, a team must play someone better than Troy State, but when Louisville and Utah and Boise State can be in the top 10 with their weak conference schedules, why would LSU, OU, Michigan, USC and others want to challenge each other with the loser being shut out of a title run in undefeated seasons.
Skip works out scheduling not Les, and with the Strength of Schedule taken out of the BCS, look for teams to schedule lower BCS teams or upper mid majors instead of the bigboys... although I would love to have a home/away with Iowa in a couple years.
We've been talking on our Hawkeye forum about a home/away with LSU. You guys have great fans and great tradition. This past fall Missouri backed out of a home/away series with us to play Arkansas State (???) and left us out to dry. We tried to get Nebraska, but they didn't want to play both us and Southern Cal (already scheduled for next year)... so we were left hanging and had to schedule Northern Iowa (one game). My guess would be NIU would let us out if we could find a good home and away partner.
