According to LSUsports.net, LSU "finished the year ranked No. 3 in the nation in three different categories, the NCAA announced on Thursday with the release of the final statistics for the 2005 season.

The Tigers (11-2) ranked No. 3 nationally in total defense, scoring defense and pass efficiency defense, while finishing the year ranked No. 6 in rushing defense and No. 11 in pass defense."

Man, can you imagine if Katrina didn't hit and we got a couple bye weeks? I honestly think the reason we bent over to Georgia was because we couldn't go on much longer. What makes football the greatest sport known to man is the fact that you cannot play continually with no rest, i.e. bye weeks. We dismantled a good Miami team with a month's worth of rest.

Major kudos to our defense. In reality, if it weren't for them, we'd be looking at a much worse schedule, because God knows we didn't have much 'umph' all year in the offense until the Peach Bowl.

I hope Landry stays and realizes that with his leadership, he can go for ANOTHER national championship and that he's stayed very healthy so far in his tenure at LSU. Ryan Clark's decision to leave early gave him a couple of rough years in the NFL, until now. He had so much more potential, but blew it by coming out early.

 LSU! LSU! LSU! LSU! LSU!

After that performance against Arizona State, the LSU defense was doomed form the start!

It seemed like everyone was calling for his head after that game. People were saying goodbye to the days of blitzing and getting after the QB. Oh how the times changed.

I admit, I was one of them. Not after the ASU game, but after the Tenn. meltdown. But in another thread, I owned up to it and admitted I know nothing about football and apologized, so I hope he forgives me.

One thing I can't help wonder about, though, is how much of that dominant defense came from the sheer talent of the line. I'm not questioning Pelini's capabilities one bit. But you don't really need to have some brilliant scheme when you've got 4 monsters up front. Guess we'll see in the fall, huh?

I don't think they were idiots. There was reason to believe as they did - the defense looked down right terrible. However, they were obviously short-sited.
